If you haven't read this book then please do. I have not read such a moving story for many years & my Reading Group gave it a unanimous 10/10. Some of them gave it their DH to read & they all liked it too.
I laughed out loud so many times but then I cried too. Far more laughs than tears.
It is very moving & I guarantee you will love Eleanor by the end of the book - although at the start she is hard to like.
I think we have all met an Eleanor if in a minor form at some time & it just goes to make us remember that loneliness is not just for the elderly but young people can be lonely too.
It is harrowing towards the end but you will be pleased you read it. I got to the last page & started it again immediately.
Wonderful book.

I enjoyed this book too, Eleanor is on the autistic spectrum and leads an isolated life, but the author manages to inject humour into situations as well as flagging up the sadness and frustrations, a bit like the book ‘A man called Ove’.

I think it is a lovely heartwarming book.

I read this book last year while in San Diego on vacation, it was a great read, couldn,t believe its taken so long to cross the pond, I took a double take when saw on shelf in Waitrose, thought my luck was in and a sequal had been written, Americans love anything British so no wonder this is a big hit Enjoy a must read.

confused I don’t understand why you say “took so long to cross the pond”.
Gail Honeyman lives in Glasgow and the book won the Costa First Novel Award (in the U.K.) in 2017.

This is one of my favourite books from last year. Eleanor is a wonderful character, and I'd love to read more about her.

I'm halfway through this - I love Eleanor, such a unique character. This is one of those books that you feel the need to race through to find out what happens in the end, but equally you don't want it to end.

I loved this book, too. I was afraid it would all either fail miserably or be too sugar-sweet, but the balance was just right, and I found myself really caring about the characters.

I think it would make a good film - if they do it sensitively.

I'm in a book group, we discuss the books we've read individually each month and swap books around. Several members were unenthusiastic. One, the youngest member, not a gran (!) said she enjoyed it, we often agree about books. We both liked Bee Larkham's Murder a lot.
I thought I'd try Eleanor Oliphant with no great expectations. I'm about 2/3 of the way through, torn between not wanting to put it down and wishing it would never end. I think it is brilliant and hope to read more by Gail Honeyman.
