Re the thread how do you choose your next book got me thinking are there any modern authors that have died and you really miss reading if their books ,mine is Maeve Binchy nearest author I have found similar style to her is Rosin Meany but if anyone’s got any other suggestion I would love to hear
nipsmum Barbara Taylor Bradford is very much alive!! She is 85 & living in America with her Husband, don't think she's written anything for a while though.
P D James, Ruth Rendell, Denis Wheatley, Jean Plaidy my list could go on
I could never get enough of Daphne Du Marier. My all time favourite being 'Rebecca'. Wonder how she would have handled todays market for ' sex and slaughter'
Reginald Hill, who wrote the Dalziel & Pascoe series, amongst other works. Not only good stories, but the quality of his written English is/was superb.
Some of my favourites sadly no longer with us are the great Rosamunde Pilcher, who died recently, R.D.Wingfield, for his Frost stories, Elvi Rhodes for her historical novels and Jane Bolitho, whose Cornwall mysteries I've only just discovered.
Titles of some books that are unforgettable for me: "The Book thief" "The Reader" "The Kite-runner" "The girl on the train" is entertaining, and of course Lee Childs 'Jack Reacher' series (one or two are really gruesome though) I loved Susan Howatch's 'Church of England' series: they must be read in order , starting with "Glittering Images", Glamorous powers" (not sure which come first) but there are hours of absorbing reading, look at "Scandalous Risks" if you think they sound dull!
