I remember the Jalna books, I once had one for a school prize, seems an odd choice now!

She only died earlier this year but my favourite author has to be Rosamunde Pilcher

There was something about Rosamund Pilcher's books. You were there somehow. RIP a wonderful writer. ??

Henning Mankel - always awaited his next novel with great excitement. Sadly missed but I still enjoy re-reading.

I don’t read a lot of fiction, preferring biography and letters, but I’m glad to see other people here feeling the lack of new Miss Read books. I’ve read them all, many several times, and I also have them as audiobooks. (Gwen Watford is the best reader.) All those characters are quite real to me - her friend Amy, Mrs Pringle, Ella Bembridge, Harold Shoesmith. I would know them if I met them in the street.

Definitely Margaret Forster, and Miss Read, especially her village school books.

Just adore Dorothy Dunnett’s Lymond series, that and Diana Gabaldon are my absolute favourites. Also used to love Elizabeth Goudge’s books when I was younger.

Then even though i was a teenager i read the magic faraway tree books and i used to love a book series mallory towers i think it was called. I remember calling my friend at 2am once as we had forgotten the dogs name in the famous five books and i just had a flash of inspiration in the early hours

I did not realise many of these authors had died.
