For many years I looked forward to receiving the new Terry Pratchett novel for Christmas. I miss looking forward to the doings of the witches and Sir Samuel Vines, the Wizards in Unseen University.
Alas, no more.

.....and Helen Dunmore, I only discovered her recently and then she died.

Terry Pratchet and Iain Banks are also authors who have died relatively recently and were not particularly old. Anita Shreve died last year and I like her books.

Not sure how modern we are supposed to be but I miss Susan Howatch and Agatha Christie. Agree with R Rendell too.

I really miss Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine and Margaret Forster. Those two spring to mind but I'm sure there are others. I did love Maeve Binchy's earlier books, but not so much her later ones, nevertheless was very sorry when her death was announced.
