Something to while away the time
I’ll start with :
Hari Kumar & Daphne Manners in
The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott.
A doomed love affair with far reaching consequences

Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester, I know he blind but it was a happy ending nonetheless. Lara and Dr Zhivago was the classic unhappy ending for a love affair. Can Scarlett and Rhett be counted as a love affair?

You lot are so well read! I've never heard of many of those.
Except I was going to say Heathcliff and Cathy. I have read Wuthering Heights.

What do you mean almostelderly?

I have a very soft spot for Cormoran Niobe.

Anna Karenina and Vronsky

Yes, but Cathy and Heathcliffe were such horrible people so not a romance to admire. Not like Jane and Rochester, now that's romance.

These are one of my current favourites:

They are historical mysteries, but in Catherine and Edgar, we see how their teachers' real life affair might have had a happy ending (Heloise and Abelard)

For persistence and devotion, Walter Hartwright and Laura Fairlie (The Woman in White)

And, more up to date, I'm also a fan of Sharon McCone & Hy Ripinsky
