Detective books recommendations please

Just to say another ‘thank you’ to all your suggestions. I’ve popped back onto this thread having worked my way through a couple of series suggested. Now looking at some of the others.

Another fan of Neil Lancaster books, such a thrilling writer, I’ve also just finished Joy Fieldings book, The Housekeeper, kept me quiet for the last two afternoons.

My preference is for Golden Age crime.

Alex gray writes about a police officer and psychologist set in Glasgow area. Reading one in middle of series that I picked up
Successful charity shop hunt on Saturday 3rd Ruth Galloway as have read 1&2 and already have 4&5 also the latest Tom Thorne by Mark Billingham. Challenge myself to only buy from charity shops!

Has anyone read any Matt Brolly books, if so were they as good as the reviewers said on Amazon ? Thanks.

All the obvious listed but can I recommend Rachel Abbot. She writes psychological thrillers, now quite highly ranked and very, very good.

Being a member of Amazon Prime I take advantage of ordering second-hand books when available at a much cheaper price with free p&p.

Ebay also does it and the state of the books is described. The majority I have received look as though they were read once.

I find Arnaldur Indridason a wonderful writer, his books are set in Iceland

I’m a fan of American crime writers and would recommend the following, Dashiell Hammett, Linda Fairstein, James Lee Burke, Laura Lippman, and Robert B. Parker are among my favourites.

Lord Peter Winsey can't remember the author.

Nagio Marsh - Inspector Allen books.

Sad news for Elly Griffiths fans,The Ruth Galloway series has come to and end,am currently reading the latest and last of the series.

Oh No! I haven't bought the latest, I'm wondering now whether one of the main characters dies, I'll find out sooner or later, don't say a word though.

I just remembered Susanna Gregory's two sets.
One, the Matthew Bartholomew series of 25 books, is set in 1600's Cambridge. The lead character is a university tutor and doctor.

The other series, of 6 books so far I think, is set in Elizabethan London. Thomas Challoner is a spy.

Ian Rankin, Inspector Rebus set in Edinburgh.

O M J Ryan. Good plots set in Manchester.

I'd highly recommend Jo Spain...Insp' Tom Reynolds series, set in Ireland.

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions, I have found several authors new to me.

Ruth Rendell's Inspector Wexford books would be well worth rereading.
And I also like Sophie Hannah, whose detectives' lives carry on through her earlier books. But she seems to have left them now.
