Finally read ‘Spare’

I wasn’t going to pay for it so I waited until the library had it. Glad I didn’t pay for it, having read it. Not a good book and quite delusional ,unfortunately. I was hoping to feel some sympathy for the ‘author’ ( if he actually managed to write it himself ) but no, nada. Self indulgence par excellence. Ah well, sometimes the press are right …

Oh yes, that is spot on! 🙂

It was a poster who praised Harry by claiming he was donating a large percentage which caused comments on donations , I don’t give a fig how much he donates .

Glorianny Fri 04-Aug-23 09:49:01

It wouldn't matter how much he gave for some it will never be enough.
Does it really matter who wanted to move away from the UK?
As for the lies. Well the RF have operated on lies and cover-ups for a long time, so I very much doubt if it is all one sided.
No woman who has an ounce of independence marries successfully into the RF unless she is prepared to sacrifice that independence (and why on earth should she?)

I bought it and read it . I thought it gave good insight . I guess for the Harry and Meghan haters will only see more reason to hate . It was well written . Moehringer ( the ghost writer) had a very good article in Vanity Fair about how he was harrassed by British press at his USA home and how frightening an experience it was . People need to quit reading the Daily Mail . Hate sells sadly too well in Britain !

I think you're projecting a little bit, there. I used to like Harry, and I was happy when he met and married Meghan. New blood into the RF, mixed race at that, moving forward at last! Those were my thoughts. However, her manipulation and his obviously weak backbone put paid to any empathy I had for them. It's as plain as the nose on my face that she wears the trousers in that relationship, and that he does exactly what she tells him to do, no matter the outcome. And no, I don't read the DM. In fact, I don't read any newspapers. I'm not swayed by the media, nor public opinion. I make my own mind up. I've heard what they've both had to say, from their own lips, and seen the obvious lies (that Meghan in particular told) uncovered, and decided for myself that they are lower than the lowest. Hope the mardy little g*ts stays in the US!

He donated money, he did not donate a large percentage of his money. Fact.

lemsip Fri 04-Aug-23 00:26:00

Syracute seems to me that you are obsessed with meghan and harry!

Well it doesn’t seem to be a fact …

He donated money that is a fact. Sadly , here one is gaslit whenever Meghan or Harry comes up for discussion.

Well it doesn’t seem to be a fact …

Anniebach Thu 03-Aug-23 16:14:17

Was a ‘large percentage’ a fact or a quote from a newspaper ?

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 03-Aug-23 16:02:45

Even three isn’t a large percentage is it?

Syracute Thu 03-Aug-23 16:02:33

I meant that the quote “ large percentage “ was one newspaper quote .

Syracute Thu 03-Aug-23 16:00:17

Anniebach

£1.5 million is a large percentage of £16 million ?

That was one newspaper quote and the sum of 1.5 million was another . There was also a quote of 3 percent . Of course , whatever the sum it will never be enough for some people .

Joseann Thu 03-Aug-23 15:54:04

Back to the ghostwriter - he's rather growing on me in a funny way - who says, Harry was overjoyed by many things. The numbers, naturally. Guinness World Records had just certified his memoir as the fastest-selling nonfiction book in the history of the world.
So yes, the money.
But, more than that, readers were reading, at last, the actual book and their online reviews were overwhelmingly effusive.
So yes, fame and adoration.

Joseann Thu 03-Aug-23 15:45:51

Do you mean Harry?
Put your thinking cap on Callistemon. 🤔

Anniebach Thu 03-Aug-23 15:40:33

Suppose some consider £1.5 million to be a large percentage of
£16 million.

Glorianny Thu 03-Aug-23 15:31:51

Sentebale acknowledge the gift in their accounts

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. (1 John 4:20-21)

So much hatred from those who claim to be Christians….

🤔
Do you mean Harry?

He was brought up a Christian but I don't know if he is practising any more. That is his own private business as far as I'm concerned.

lemsip Thu 03-Aug-23 15:03:45

Penguin Random House, released the book, titled Spare, and confirmed the prince's plans to donate more than £1.5m to charity.28 Oct 2022

not a large amount for charity then as

Harry is widely reported to have secured £16 million ($20 million) last year as an advance. He paid ghostwriter JJ Moehringer $1million for the book. He said that 'proceeds' from the book will go to UK charities.

Callistemon21 Thu 03-Aug-23 14:45:11

If I find it abandoned on a park bench or it becomes free on Kindle I'm definitely going to skim read it.
🙂

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 03-Aug-23 14:42:38

Out of a $20m advance. I don’t call that a large percentage.

Syracute Thu 03-Aug-23 14:32:25

Germanshepherdsmum

How large is that percentage?

1.5 million , so far , but then that will be doubted and the boring cry “ liar “ will be bandied about . By people who of course have not read the book .

Anniebach Thu 03-Aug-23 13:45:31

Is it a fact ? he lies so much

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 03-Aug-23 13:30:32

How large is that percentage?
