Finally read ‘Spare’

I wasn’t going to pay for it so I waited until the library had it. Glad I didn’t pay for it, having read it. Not a good book and quite delusional ,unfortunately. I was hoping to feel some sympathy for the ‘author’ ( if he actually managed to write it himself ) but no, nada. Self indulgence par excellence. Ah well, sometimes the press are right …

It has been been reported that hotels in Europe have been flooded with so many left-behind copies of the 'Spare' in the summer that they have started giving the books away - but even local bookstores and libraries won't take them.

I have netflix but I never watch their documentary.

I read ´Sparé. Two thirds of the book is about his life before he met Meghan. What struck me is how lonely he was. If only he had married someone who wanted to be part of Royal life.

I think that's part of the problem, no one with an ounce of sense would want to join "The Firm"

So you're saying all those who have married anyone from the Royal Family has not an ounce of sense?

I'm sure they'd be pleased to hear that.

Oh come on a racist, elitist, sexist, secretive, organisation with links with paedophiles, which isolates and cold-shoulders you if you dare to leave, would anyone with any sense join it?

He’s been discounted and disrespected his whole life. I thought the book was well written and just a glimpse into his trying to be his own person for years. Well done!

And you know that because??

Are you close to the family?

Glad to hear Eugenie was able to hit the town Glorianny despite those pesky protection officers following her!

Harry was looking for a way out (so long as he kept all the privileges) long before he met Meghan so in a way she was his dream ticket but I’ve often wondered how it would have been if Meghan had been happy to fall in line and embraced all the duchess malarkey with aplomb, not caring where she was in the pecking order as her adoring fans proclaimed her to be the one true princess!

Harry would have been dragged along in her wake, still longing for escape, with his face getting scowlier by the day. 🤣🤣

Great Glorianny, something different to get our teeth into - the differences between the York girls and Harry.

I think Beatrice and Eugenie both have their heads well screwed on. One achieved a 2:1 in History from London University, the other a 2:1 in History and Politics I think from Newcastle.
Both chose husbands who wish to keep themselves out of the limelight. They do not seek attention and publicity.
Both their weddings were classy and it was a joy to see their grandparents so happy.
Despite their differences and past History, the girls' parents put on a united front and no one is estranged or left out. I think B & E feel loved.
Both girls put up with some dreadful comments from the press, but I don't think they complained once.
Neither girl can be accused of one upmanship, they work as a team. I can hardly see Eugenie telling the world in a book how she always had her sister's cast offs, or Beatrice giving away private details about her sister's medical condition.

Whereas Harry, ..............

Eugenie was at Newcastle. There is a story that she was rejected at first, because she only got AAB and not AAA in her A levels. She was then accepted onto a combined course when people realised who she was. She was a well known celeb in Newcastle along with her security team she was regularly in night clubs.
I think possibly the experiences of their mother helped the girls. Harry of course didn't have that.

Harry/Meghan love to sue for invasion privacy eg Meghan's letter to her father, but quite happy to tell the world that William is circumcised. That is extremely private information. They are hypocritical liars.

Granmarderby10 Mon 31-Jul-23 13:02:12

Really tried to listen to it on Audiobook several times. Sent me off to sleep 😴 in no time.
Harrys’ speech pattern grates on me - like Gordon Ramseys’ does, as well.
I sometimes long for the sound of RP or just a very well read book. Perhaps this is why audiobooks have remained expensive Professionals narrators cost money.

Yes but they are , share same grandparents, uncles, aunts .

Hang on didn't Anne say "My children are not royal"?

Anniebach Mon 31-Jul-23 12:44:19

Zara and Peter, Louise and James, Eugenie and Beatrice , cope well

Interesting I read a brief article about how William wants ALL of his children more involved with any decisions when they’re adults in order to spare Charlotte and Louis the pain of “sparedom” There is a theme here, Harry, Andrew, Margaret ??

Yes "Spare" and the consequences isn't new.
I think 2 of the people who have coped well with the "being royal" bit are Eugenie and Beatrice. In spite of all their father's pushing for them to be royal, and his misdemeanors they seem to have come out of it OK. They did have terrible press at one time, mostly about the way they dressed. They were protected as children but lost that as they became adults. I believe they are very close to Harry, perhaps understandably.

Pammie1 Mon 31-Jul-23 12:30:59

According to a recent report - think it was on GB News - Spare is currently the book most left behind at holiday resorts !!

larrikin suited him down to the ground years ago, nanna8
Even on their visit to Australia after their marriage, Harry and Meghan were well received and he was lovely with the crowds who gathered to see them.

Now he's becoming a whingeing Pom.

Joseann Sun 30-Jul-23 14:35:39

larrikin that's a lovely word!

I might employ if for a few I know.

Anniebach Sun 30-Jul-23 14:27:26

Takes time to recover from the 3 hour car chase in New York,
the one they thought happened!
