I echo what Aveline has said. So glad to know I’m not the only one!

I read all books at least twice. First time, I find myself skipping and rushing to see how theplot works out. I then reread it immediately to take it more slowly, to notice the nuances of character and plot.

A lot of books then get kept to be read many times. I am currently rereading the novels of Jane Austen. I must have read them 100 times, but every time I notice something new.

There are some that I remember, but most as you say are so transitory that I don’t even realise I’ve bought the same book until I’m half way through.

This thread is a big relief for me! So I'm not the only one who reads voraciously then moves on to the next one and forgets the one I've just read. There are exceptions of course. Some books really stay with me.

I have always read a lot and have never remembered details of most books I read.

I’m the same. I’m an avid reader but as soon as I’ve finished a book I couldn’t even tell you the name of the main character most of the time!

I’m the same watermeadow and always have been, I’m a very transitory reader, for immediate gratification, tactile as I only read actual books.
If I have to read a book for a book club or an exam I really have to focus.

I use theGoodReads site where you can review every book you read and you have a record of all books you read.

I have had this problem ever since I can remember, which can make it difficult to recommend books to other people.

I read a great many books too. I don't mind reading a bit of rubbish every now and again.

Do you like to read fiction or non-fiction? I enjoy both I am reading an autobiography and a scientific book about nutrition at the moment. I couldn't tell you the title of either of them. Do you ever have more than one book on the go?

I used to have a journal where I wrote the title, the author, how long it took to read, a quote and an opinion.

Now I have no idea where I put it!

Wouldn't worry, I'm the same !!

I read a lot and always have, usually a couple of books every week. Often, as soon as a book is finished, I forget the title, author and story, but if I start a book again I’ll soon realise I read it before, even if years ago.
I don’t read rubbish, I like them well-written and critically acclaimed and toss aside very many books which are well-reviewed but turn out to be poor.
There’s nothing wrong with my memory otherwise but books slip away like dreams. Is this common in old age or just because I read so much?
