Number 8 in the Strike series, mine arrived a few days ago, anyone else?

I finished listening to it on Audible yesterday, Jaxjacky. I found it more complicated than previous books, but it's a good yarn.

I’m 3 hours in on audible and enjoying a lot.

I shall be reading it at bedtime after I’ve finished my book club book, it’s a weighty tome, can’t wait.

I started reading it last night. I am still only a little way in and I am enjoying it very much so far.

haven't bought the book yet but I love the Strike series on telly.

We'll probably get it, we both read her Galbraith books. I have found some of her plots a bit too multi stranded at times making the narrative overly complicated. I really loved Troubled Blood, for me that was definitely her best, I keep hoping she will produce another of that ilk. They transfer well to the dramatisations and the casting of Strike and Robin, spot on!

Chardy Sun 14-Sept-25 15:08:25

Yes TerriBull I think Troubled Blood is probably my favourite

Reading it now. Enjoyable, but hard to keep track of all the characters.

Are they written by JK Rowling?

LucyAnna5

Are they written by JK Rowling?

Yes, as Robert Galbraith.

Oreo Sun 14-Sept-25 20:16:48

I found the size of The Ink Black Heart too much of a tome, is this latest one the same size?

Are they written by JK Rowling?

Ah, thanks - I read an earlier one without knowing that

AGAA4 Sun 14-Sept-25 20:43:35

Mine has just arrived. I have read all of the Strike books. Looking forward to this one.

charley68 Sun 14-Sept-25 21:33:48

Really looking forward to reading it. Love the series.

I downloaded it and am finding it slow going. But I'll keep going.

Yes it is a big book

Having read all the previous Strike books I have just finished reading 'The Hallmarked Man'. I really liked it and preferred it to 'The Running Grave'.

Lots of characters and I found it a bit difficult at times to remember who was who. Plenty of sub-plot and intrigue to keep up the interest.

I don't want to say any more as I might start giving out spoilers.

Mollygo Mon 22-Sept-25 11:05:01

I’m listening to it at the moment. I usually read the books, so I’ll see how it goes.

Parsley3 Mon 22-Sept-25 14:39:31

I am 48th on the list to borrow it from my local library so no spoilers please.

Really enjoyed it, listened on Audible . I needed to make notes and even then, started all over again. I didn't mind that a bit as Robert Glenister actually 'becomes' Robyn, Strike, Murphy and the wonderful Pat. I agree with a previous poster, the characterisation in the television series is spot on. Diagrams and notes helped with the complicated plot turns. I love the pops JKR makes at establishment figures and some obnoxious types and the sympathy for vulnerable people.

I raced through it, and then began re reading it, calmly, grasping the characters and the interwoven plot. JKR is like Dickens - by chapter three you have a cast of hundreds, and really need a list to refer to.

In the newspapers everywhere at the moment (don't think I can post the link but this was the Guardian) there's a report about the Met and Freemasonary and also very worryingly reference to the unsolved murder of a private detective in a car park in east London. Hope JK won't do anything nasty to us....
"The [Metropolitan police](https://www.theguardian.com/uk/metropolitan-police) are considering measures that could require officers to inform superiors if they are a member of the Freemasons after concerns were raised about the impact that being part of the group could have"
"The Freemasons move was recommended by the 2021 independent panel report on the force’s handling of the unsolved 1987 [murder of Daniel Morgan](https://www.theguardian.com/.../daniel-morgan-met-admits...). The private detective, 37, was killed with an axe in the car park of the Golden Lion pub in Sydenham, south-east London.
Several inquiries over the decades unearthed allegations of corruption. The 2021 report said officers’ membership of the Freemasons had been “a source of recurring suspicion and mistrust in the investigations”.

There was a thread on X (Twitter) last night about the thoroughly enjoyable Strike series of books. Apparently there is only going to be ten books in the series. A few people posted questions to JKR, but no answers were forthcoming at that time.
If it’s true, I wonder if she already has something new planned in the way of books? I do hope so, I’ve really enjoyed everything she’s written from Harry Potter onwards. I particularly enjoyed The Casual Vacancy and wonder if she might write a few more “stand alone” books?
Suggestions that all her X posts, etc. should be collated into one book have also met with no response from JKR.

Have just returned from holiday and picked up my ordered copy from the library.

Have only 2 weeks to get it read as there is a huge waiting list and it cannot be renewed.

No matter, think not much else will get done until I’ve finished it.

Yes, I’ve also read that JKR has previously said she has enough material for 10 Strike books.
