Buying books on Amazon

I buy nearly all my books on Amazon as Kindle books. I can change the print size to suit me and the prices are good.

I also quickly forget the books I have read. If I tried to repurchase a book I had bought previously, a note would flash up saying ‘You purchased this book on 2 April 2022. (Or whenever’.).
Amazon seems to no longer do this. I asked their Customer Support why and got a generic rubbish reply .
Has anyone else found this a problem.

PS I know I could go through my Kindle library to check whether I had bought a book previously, but with 1978 books on there , it a bit of a faff.

Other book sites are available

I haven’t noticed this but will look out next time I buy a book. However, I usually download a sample before purchasing a book and this is usually enough to remind me if I’ve read it before. Not always though if it’s one I read a long time ago.

I’m still getting a reminder from Amazon that I’ve already bought the book I’m looking at.

I had the "already purchased" reminder early last week.

I've had this, l think it's to do with the ASIN - a unique number the Amazon assigns to every item it sells. If you've bought an item previously but the ASIN has changed for some reason (new edition of a book maybe so a new ASIN has been assigned) the system won't recognise any previous purchase).
I think you have 7 days to cancel a kindle order (but possibly shouldn't have read more than 10% of the book) and Amazon will give a refund. I don't think they'll honour this if you do it often. I've done it a couple of times but hadn't actually read any of the book - the refund was immediate.

Go to orders and put in the name of the author. All previous purchases should come up under their name.

I buy my books from Amazon and still get a note by the book saying previously purchased and the date.

I have just joined my local library. I joined it online, so there's no need even to go to the library. I could download books for free straight away.

I had that notice just yesterday when reminded of a Robert Goddard book I decided I wanted to reread.
I decided to buy it but was told I already owned it.

Me too.

The reminder still works for me, also a previously viewed one. I read and buy a large number of books so this is invaluable for me.

I get the reminder as well. I need it as I have approximately 800 books on my Kindle. I use Kindle unlimited unless it's a book I really want to read.

I went to buy a Kindle book on Amazon yesterday and the note came up I had bought it April 2024. So it still works and it’s invaluable to me as I completely forget books I have read.

Maybe I should start another post but here goes anyway-
Those of you that use a real life Library, can the books be downloaded onto a kindle? I know years ago it couldn't but maybe now you can?

That said, I do still still get the message, although I did 'send' one book back that I had already read with no problem.

Good to know 👍🏻

Kindle is my friend as i read at least 2 books each week.
I am a member of Amazon Prime £8.99 per month which gives me free parcel delivery and also the Prime tv channel. Happily it also provides Prime books which are free. I haven't paid for a book in many years.

Yes. I'm still getting an alert if I go to buy a book that was previously purchased.

I used to be a librarian (pre 1980s) and its sad how the profession has diminished. I think I got out at exactly the right time. Most public libraries are now run by volunteers. How sad.

Thank you. That as new to me and really helpful.

RachelD Mon 29-Sept-25 12:51:31

Thank you. Same here.

RachelD Mon 29-Sept-25 12:54:50

Thank you.

RachelD Mon 29-Sept-25 13:02:15

I never thought of that. Just rid it and it works. Thank you.

RachelD Mon 29-Sept-25 13:03:08

Tried.

Angelafeet Tue 30-Sept-25 13:39:38

I just checked and it still tells me that I have or borrowed book before. It may be your settings

Imarocker Tue 30-Sept-25 13:40:30

If I go to a book on Amazon that I have already purchased for my Kindle it says ‘read now’.

lizzypopbottle Tue 30-Sept-25 13:47:03

RachelD The reminder didn't work for me last time I bought a kindle book. I was annoyed. I might try it again with a book I know I already own and see what happens.
