Looking for my next book

I'm just finishing The Boy from the Sea - Garrett Carr.. I loved every minute. It is so well written , a real page turner.
I have read Nesting -Rosie O' Donnell and Mouthing -Orla Mackay and recommend them both.. What is it about these new Irish writers that they are producing such amazing books ?I have Gabriel's Moon -William Boyd waiting, together with This is Happiness-Niall Williams.
I was very disappointed with Yesteryear and found it a chore reading it for Bookgroup rather than a pleasure.I'm sure it will make a good film .

Only just now reading The remains of the Day and I’m loving it. No idea why it’s taken me so long to get to it.

I have just read Elizabeth Stout's The Things We Never Say; it is a short book but stayed with me and made me think.
Well structured. About the gaps in relationships, their impact and set in 2024 Massachusetts, so references the Trump election.

One of the authors that makes Kindle unlimited worthwhile for me is Rhys Bowen.
Among other stories she writes about life , from different aspects in the war era. The Rose Arbour, The Paris Assignment, Mrs Endicott’s Splendid Adventure, The Tuscan Child and The Venice Sketchbook are some I recall and some I have actually reread.

Have a look at Barbara Erskine she weaves modern day and periods in time that vary from Romans to the 1800's and very cleverly. She has a good story with it to.

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. Billed as 'The heart stopping read that will live with you for ever'. It certainly has with me!

I read American Dirt a few years ago now. I do agree, utterly gripping, yes it does stay with you.

I’ve just finished The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling. I couldn’t put it down. Her insight is amazing.

I loved that book, the village setting is appealing and very well written.

I loved this book from beginning to end. I met Rachel Joyce soon after I finished reading it and asked her if there was any chance of a sequel. She didn't seem to think so but I live in hope

Looking at my list from the beginning of this year, these would be my best ones so far: Workhorse - Caroline Palmer, Flashlight - Susan Choi, Buckeye - Patrick Ryan, London Falling - Patrick Radden Keefe, It Could Have Been Her - Lisa Jewell, Gabriel's Moon - William Boyd, Nesting - Rosie O'Donnell.

Books are so subjective though, we all know what we personally like. Don't we?

I bought London Falling this morning, and am having difficulty putting it down. Its riveting 📕

The Penguin Lessons by Tom Michell was excellent. Just finished listening to the audiobook. Highly recommend

Terribull I’ve just finished The Predicament, the 2nd book in the Gabriel Dax trilogy. The 3rd is published this Autumn. I’m a big fan of William Boyd.

Yes I've also read The Predicament glammagran we're both fans of William Boyd in this house. I look forward to the 3rd instalment, will try and get on the library list pronto as soon as I know the publication date

Of others mentioned, I loved Casual Vacancy when it first came out.Read a couple of Barbara Erskines, quite some time ago, but enjoyed those too.

The Frozen People by Elly Griffiths is a good time slip book. Not really my cup of tea but she is a very good writer.

Have read The Glassmaker (based on Muerno,Venice) which was a good read. Also The Offing & The Secret Painter

I’ve just finished “Hamnet” by Maggie O’Farrell - a beautiful book.

If you like Timeslip novels, Barbara Erskine is a brilliant writer.

I’m at the end of a Caroline James novel. About to go on holiday so, although I have unread books available, I’ve ordered two from the above author.

Can thoroughly recommend Rogue Male mentioned above - an old black and white film was made of the book but for the life of me I can't remember the film title although I have seen it many years ago. I would also give The Belle Fields and sequel Ashes of Roses by Lora Adams a try - I found them easy reading and enjoyable!

I'm working working my way through the "Seven Sisters" series by Lucinda Riley and enjoying them. They are based on the different backgrounds of girls adopted from various parts of the world by one man, who, on his death, has left clues to their origins.

I have read every book by Lucinda Riley, she was an amazing writer.
The Seven sisters series was fascinating.
I bought a bundle of books a few months ago and there were several by Adele Parks, they made great holiday reading.

Anything by Kristin Hannah. I have read nearly all her books and enjoyed them all immensely !
