I was interested to hear Victoria Coran Mitchell say that she usually has eight or nine books that she is currently reading.

I often have more than one but I don't think I would go above four or five.

How about you?

My Kindle is well stocked but I discipline myself to only read one book at a time. I seem to whizz through them so am always glad to have another teed up.

I usually have two on the go, over my holidays this year I had four.

One was a physical book which I was struggling to finish, the other were easier reads on my kindle.

It really depends on my mood which one I read.

As a keen bookworm all my life, I have always had several books on the go. The hardest time was when I first went to work in London, and really felt I was missing reading as much as I wanted to, until I then devised a system. Hardback book at home available whenever., second book by my bed, then paperback in my bag available to read in the tube, and then another one kept at work in a drawer.

Whenever I move , which was quite often, the second day after I had arrived, the rules where find the library and get my name down for a ticket and of course , look up all the clubs and interests that I might want to contact. Living abroad, I could read in 4 languages , but of course there were never enough, and I used to scrounge any decent books I could from people coming out, but drew the line at Mills and Boon! Not a lot of pleasures about being a widow and living alone, but it does allow me to have books besides all sorts of places, and others in the car etc., so that I have a book with me whereever I go. No one to say "not more books!" and I pass them on and give them away, apart from some very special ones that I enjoy rereading, including a very special copy of Elizabeths German Garden, in a lovely soft cover that I enjoy reading and holding. Hurray for libraries, for that chance to come across something you have never read before. When I find something new I tend to read everything else that the author has written. Enjoy fiction, travel ,non fiction and autobiographies etc etc. Not into horror or sci fi. Enjoy all sorts , from Neville Shute, to Jane Austin to Alexander McCall Smith, who strangely I enjoy his No 1 Ladies Dective agency group, but never got into the Scotland Road group. My great pleasure was to get a book token for my birthday which allowed my to wave it about as I spent ages looking round book shops. Love 2nd hand book shops as you really dont know what treasures you will come across. So going back to the question, I tend to have 5 or 6 on the go and have no problem switching from one to the other. I also really remember books I have read, yet can easily forget someones name!!

I was always a bookworm. When I was young I was always being chased out to play and 'stop sitting about reading!'
When I had my own children I encouraged them to read but they always just wanted to be out playing!

Three at the moment.Unsure if it’s a good idea or not really.Maybe giving full attention to one book at a time would be better.🤔

I am an avid reader , BUT I concentrate on one book at a time UNLESS one is fiction and one fact.

Usually 3 or 4.
One I know so well I can fall asleep without worrying what I’ve missed.
One that I’m enjoying, but that’s a bit heavy going.
One or two that I’ve just spotted on Bookbub, read the sample and can’t wait to carry on reading.
I usually have a couple or so of audio books on the go too. One for housework and one for driving and sometimes one for listening to whilst doing a jigsaw.

I usually have several. Always a novel, well two of those, a physical book and an audio from Borrow Box which I often listen to in bed, and then have to keep going back over whatever I've been listening to because I've drifted off and have no idea what's what! I've still got an Audible account, but I'm going to cancel that now I'm increasingly using the free library apps. Then I have several history books that I dip into, I've had one on the go about the Plantagenets for ages. I like geographical books too, at the moment I'm interested in reading up about the Silk Road. I don't have problems switching particularly from fiction to non fiction. Although once, I had a character of the same name in a simultaneous read/listen and I got the two a bit muddled briefly.

I read a lot of books but can only manage one at a time... I'm easily confused!

Two or three usually, One will be fiction, another non-fiction, both in my sitting room plus another non-fiction one in my kitchen/diner with a sitting area I use in the afternoon,
I tend to spend more time reading non-fiction, it needs more concentration than fiction which I generally whizz through
