Books I don't know what to do with

I donate them to my local hospital they sell them and all proceeds go into the funds for the patients. My sister works in the shop volunteering and she assures me all funds help greatly.

Are there no charities that pick up near you, might be worth your while checking.

I don't know whether any of these would suit you, but here are a few suggestions. Some villages have set up little libraries in telephone boxes for the community. However, that might not be an option for you if you don't live in a small village community, just a suggestion. I've seen some set up a stall outside their home with a "please help yourself" Not in the pouring rain of course. Even in pubs too!

There are several on line sites where books can be sold. I've not used those because I'd rather donate. I once bought more books than I do now and some of those I donated to my library, they were best sellers in good condition. I've also given some to friends.

Local hospitals would also be a good place to donate. We even have a "help yourself book shelf" in the shopping mall in my local town, situated near the loos.

We had a charity shop in the town where I used to live, who dedicated one of their shop to books only. The books were properly arranged by category. It was well liked, throughout the town, almost rivalled Waterstones.

Once they’re collected, try operating a ‘one in, one out’ system, maybe? Works this end…

Our local Sainsbury's and Tesco have a table full of books, suggested donation for charity, £1.

I wouldn’t have kept so many in the first place! My bookcase has maybe 20 of my all time favourites that I return to occasionally. Otherwise Kindle is fantastic - portable for holidays and no clutter being just 2 of the bonuses (there are others).

I can only imagine with horror the amount of space you’d have had to allocate to keep 50 bags of books.

Shelter bookshop picked up a van load today! They are the only charity in Edinburgh which still collects.

Oxfam will accept 20 books per person per day.

I think the Salvation Army do pick ups at home addresses but you will have to check regarding books. They were very kind to a friend, they chose a convient time for her and all went very well.

As well as the suggestions above, local villages might be holding fetes or jumble sales and would welcome books for their stall. There may be charity shop volunteers living nearby who would take them for you.

There are commercial companies that donate a percentage to charities. You put everything on the doorstep bagged up and hey presto it disappears. They took large numbers of books recently snd they're coming again. Can't remember off hand the name. Will.hsve a look and get back.

He contacted World of Books and has been paid for sending them a boxful. I don’t know how much nor the size of the box, but they come and collect them! That’s a tremendous bonus…

Look at Donate Books by Post on the Oxfam website. You can order bags from them and send the books for free by taking to your local DPD collection point - often in a corner shop. There is a weight limit but it's a lot of books!
