Sir Tom Moore Charity: Found Seriously Mismanaged

The Charity Commission has now found that the charity in Tom Moore's name was mismanaged and was subject to misconduct, with his daughter and her husband personally benefitting from the operation.

So does that mean that Sir Tom obtained his knighthood under false pretences?

What a sordid mess the whole thing is.

I hope she is forced to repay to the charity the money she has pocketed. Exploitative, manipulative, greedy, self-seeking are words which come to mind to describe Hannah. Accepting £18000 for an event when she was already being paid as a director is surely fraud?
It doesn’t impinge on the £39 million that went to the NHS charity.

I didn’t donate anything because I felt uncomfortable about it. That’s unusual for me because I do give to good causes.

Same here, my donations were all to help local folk.
As far as who knew what, unless you knew the family personally, it’s difficult to say which of them were genuine.

If the government at the time hadn’t been so keen to give money to every atom, Dick and Harry for useless PPE then there would have been more money for the NHS.

J52 Thu 21-Nov-24 09:32:19

Tom! Maybe atoms as well!

MissAdventure Thu 21-Nov-24 09:33:29

They should make her pay the rest to charity, too.

That is why people donated.
Not to feather the nests of a family who all seemed that bit too ready to claim the limelight at every opportunity.

Totally agree Primrose, I thought the whole thing was suspicious from the very beginning. I disliked the daughter at first sight and I thought the public adulation of Captain Tom was nauseous. He did a good thing raising money for the NHS but his name is tainted and I hope they are charged with fraud.

Sir Tom Moore Charity: Found Seriously Mismanaged

Well there’s a surprise.
Poor old man.

Very sad. Lovely old boy who kept our spirits up in darkest times and raised money for the NHS. It probably kept him going too. Yes the whole situation was probably, in hindsight, manipulated by the daughter. Don’t forget they took him on the free cruise where he caught Covid and subsequently died. Daughter and her family should be ashamed. They have destroyed his legacy. I still think he deserved the knighthood as much as anybody - I am sure he was not aware of what was going on.

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 21-Nov-24 14:23:17

Yes, shame on her. I feel for the sister, too.

Yes, shame on her. I feel for the sister, too.

And the children, especially after they were wheeled out to appear during her self-pitying televised interview. I think I'd change my name.

MissAdventure Thu 21-Nov-24 14:51:24

How old are the children?
I thought they were older than what I'd call a child
My memory though,is not the best

Smileless2012 Thu 21-Nov-24 14:53:27

They've brought shame on themselves but not Tom or other family members who had nothing to do with this. Imagine how ashamed he'd be if he knew.

Ramblingrose22 Thu 21-Nov-24 14:55:12

I hope the daughter can be sued for embezzlement, though I'm not sure who'd do the suing. Perhaps GermanShepherdsMum would know?

When she was interviewed a while back she protested her innocence and appeared outraged that anyone could think she had misused the funds.

People are so easily fooled at the beginning for all the best of reasons and that is what the con artists take advantage of.

I’ve just read she got paid £18,000 to open a youth club in Bristol. Tom’s charitable foundation received £2,000 and she kept the rest. The Foundation would like to see her brought to book.

MissAdventure Thu 21-Nov-24 18:25:21

I really hope she has the blooming book thrown at her.
Despicable.

Michael Ball is conspicuous by his silence.

I wonder if Hannah and her sister are still on speaking terms.

I don’t think so. What is being suggested, I think, is that the daughter is misusing the funds raised for charity on herself and family.
Curiously, when it was all happening during COVID, I had a bad feeling about the publicity and all that, that the daughter was plugging. My gut seems to be right.

I felt the same, had misgivings about it from the get go.

lemsip Thu 21-Nov-24 20:04:59

Sir Tom got his knighthood for walking, he done the hard work!

not his fault is it!!

Freya5 Thu 21-Nov-24 20:08:49

No it doesn't matter. He raised millions for the NHS, personally I would like to know how that was spent. Wisely or not, will we ever know. His efforts are in no way to be demeaned.

winterwhite Thu 21-Nov-24 20:17:39

We could all have walked round our gardens 100 times, or more or less according to our age and fitness . It wasn’t a very spectacular thing to do and I wouldn’t have thought knighthood-worthy in itself.

Babs03 Thu 21-Nov-24 20:19:35

Yes was a weird time during lockdown, I think we all became susceptible to emotionally charged stories like that of Captain Tom. We got swept along with it. But I didn't like the way the daughter seemed to be orchestrating everything from the get-go.
Another story of greed overtaking a sense of public duty. I just wonder that she didn't fear being found out because obviously now she has been disgraced and probably can't show her face wherever it is she lives.

MissAdventure Thu 21-Nov-24 20:19:42

I feel the same.
Of course, we'd need someone to inform the press about our walking...
