It has been my experience that most grans are in their 40's or 50's these days.....hardly old, so what's with the logo?

Swedenana Sat 14-May-11 10:33:57

I completely agree about the logo - I'm sure that the moderators will take note that we'd all like to see something a bit more sassy and classy.

Twinklepickers, I love your quote! grin
A lady never reveals her true age. According to my knickers I'm 10

This lady is 50 outside, 18 inside and dare not even look at the lable in her knickers.

I'm 47 and feel the same as I did when i was 18 - no more sense, same enthusiasm for life - the logo is ridiculous

58, though feel about 28 !!! (most days) First grandchild on the way, expected late October. Agree logo is surreal, dont know what on earth their rationale was for choosing that.

BurgundyGran Mon 16-May-11 12:07:19

I am 61 and have five grandchildren: 10, 7, 15 months and twins of 10 weeks.

What were they thinking of with that logo? Either it represents the Land Army (I was born 4 yrs after WW2 finished) or the Suffragettes.

Grandparents are more modern and even my MIL as Great Grandma at 85 is really with it! With the diverse age range we need and deserve something much better than that. Competition to design new logo perhaps?

I remember asking my Grandmother this question (many, many years ago).

Her reply was "I'm as old as my eyes, and a little older than my teeth"

I'm a 53 year old separated guy from Sellicks Beach, South Australia.

Interesting comments about the logo. I remember reading an article about Perry and Croft, the writers of Dad's Army. They said that they purpposely wrote a sitcom about a old-time situation - it was first broadcast in 1968, more than twenty years after the war - because there is nothing so unfashionable as last year's fashion. Shows set in the present tense, like Dallas or The Sweeny, look horribly dated now but historical shows, like Dad's Army or Blackadder, can stand continuous re-runs and gain new followers in the next generation.

So, chose something that is already old-fashioned but has stood the test of time (a classic) or chose something time-specific and become out-of-date in a few years time? Perhaps Gransnet are being cleverer than you think.

For those of you who haven't been to mumsnet, their logo is a take on Charlie's Angels. That is no more relevant to today's young mums than land girls/soviet workers are to today's gannies.grin

gah! choose

janthea Tue 17-May-11 12:38:51

I'm 65, still working and plan to for another couple of years. I feel the same as I felt when I was in my thirties. I have two grandsons (4 and 2) and one granddaughter (2) who will have a brother or sister at Christmas.

I agree about the logo. It looks old fashioned. The colour on my computer makes it look a maroony colour. Not very pleasant. Again the colour is dated.

artygran Tue 17-May-11 17:36:00

I am galloping towards 65 (well, maybe not galloping, more "limping" really). I can still kick a football around and have cushion fights with my 4 year old grandson (he says I'm a bit rough!). I think the logo reminds me of those soviet communist propaganda posters of female workers marching for the motherland, or whatever it is they are supposed to have done. Could do with something with a bit more pizzazz!

annie33 Tue 17-May-11 19:27:07

I will be 78 next month, have two children, 5 grand children and two great grand children.Due to divorce I dont see my grand children or great grand children. Annie

You lucky lot being young grandmas! Have just got my first and I'm not far off 62. My MIL, the only one of our parents still alive, has become a great grandma for the first time at 90. We both feel we've been waiting a long time! Just hope that I hold up physically (and mentally!) so that I can have fun with my grandaughter + some more grandchildren in the future I hope!

rosemarie Tue 17-May-11 20:26:28

i like the logo it shows that we are for anything. i am 53 i have 3 grandson 5 (step) grandaughters and a great grandson. i am in a wheelchair and the boys think it is great as they say i have my own wheels to race them on their bikes

townie Wed 25-May-11 10:27:26

The logo is quite fun - can see it's supposed to be retro - evokes my parents' generation, not mine. I relate more to the Charlies' Angels one.

I'm early 60s - not a grandmother. Really surprised how young lots of you are as had assumed grandmas were getting older with people marrying later, etc.

I've been wondering why there are so few threads and posts on Gransnet on my favourite Style and Beauty area - but I guess that, like me, whatever your age you use the excellent Mumsnet one if your interests run that way.

When I was a mere youngster of about 57, my grand-daughter, aged 7, asked, 'What did you do in the war Granny?' Well, I was a toddler for most of it and can only vaguely remember landgirls walking up the road to the local farm. So yes, I agree with the rest of you. Scrap the logo. Give us the sixties rather than the forties - apologies to any great-grandparents who may be reading this, tho my best friend is now a great-grandma at 72.

trixie Sun 29-May-11 18:29:02

Actually, er, I really like the logo.
Bit Soviet in style but shows women as powerful leaders, who can campaign while also nurturing a baby. They look like grown-ups.
Such a refreshing change from some of these child-like waifs who pass for women in the press these days. All those knock-kneed poses, big hair and kiddie-voices, yuk!

hennothefirst Sun 29-May-11 18:56:03

I'm young enough not to have known that the logo was a land army type image. I thought it was kinda odd but so is a lot of stuff nowadays, especially logos. I also thought those women on it looked rather fine and vigorous. In short, it doesn't bother me at all.

hennothefirst Sun 29-May-11 19:00:03

PS hi Trixie, glad I'm not the odd one out AGAIN!! wink

goldengirl Sun 29-May-11 22:27:19

I'm 62 but feel so much younger until (1) I see my reflection in a shop window and (2) have to get up from the floor after building a train track.

Re: the logo. Would bright, interesting text reading 'Gransnet' be simpler and more suitable than a 'grandparent' pictorial image?

I must admit I hadn't noticed it until it was mentioned!

Libradi Mon 06-Jun-11 08:49:15

I'm 53, my granddaughter will be 5 in August and one more on the way in November.

Love this site but please change the logo and the colours Gransnet, so 'Old Fashioned'. Lets have something bright and cheerful!

susiecb Mon 06-Jun-11 10:04:36

borstalgran Wed 22-Jun-11 16:03:50

I am 62, go to the gym, including spin classes, volunteer, tweet and do Facebook. I am sick of being patronised by all including NHS. I am not old. I will be, I know, but we are a different generation from our parents. So sod off, you patronisers and that includes the git who threw water over me from his van window as I peddled up hill.
