Oh, I had a hand-me-down red velvet dress that had originally been a bridesmaid's. I loved that dress. (pearl buttons)

I wasn't the bridesmaid though.

I married my first husband impulsively whilst living in Canada, I wore a pair of Levi jeans and a denim shirt, he wore the same. Must have been mad.

Mine was pink velvet - home-made by M-I-L!! I'm still not sure if she made one shoulder higher than the other on purpose or if indeed I am that odd shape!! I still have it hanging in the wardrobe - been there since 1973 - I might try it to see if it still fits................she says laughing very loudly and hysterically

I'm with my partner now (have been for 41 years), but when I married in 1967, I wore a lilac wool mini skirt and jacket. I had purple patent shoes with straps. I considered the skirt too long when I bought it, so hacked off about a foot and it was perfect! The marriage was a disaster though!

Don't do it jogginggirl - I tried mine on a little while back....

Well jangly - never one to shy away from a challenge - I can report that I did and it fits (a little snug but it is nearly 38 years ago)! I walked into my husband's study wearing it (he was on the phone) and he nearly fell off his chair ............

Oh WOW!!! I am truly amazed!

Is it all the jogging?

It's the jogging and the fact that I have lost over 2 stones with S/W over the last 12 months - but to be honest I'm still amazed - not at the fact that it still fits but that I chose to wear it in the first place

I had a lemon two piece with a box pleated skirt, and I wore a white blouse and had white accessories, with a white silk flower in my hair, it was 1963.

Jogginggirl

I had a cream Berkatex wedding dress with a sort of cape that was attached. It cost £27. I stored it until last year when I decided it was crazy to keep it and threw it out. Took a lot of courage, but am pleased I did. What was the point of keeping it? Anyway I have both my DD's dresses in the loft now and they cost much much more!! Tried selling them as they are beautiful, but was told they only accept dresses less than two years old as they would be out of fashion. So they will stay in the loft 'till we kick the bucket and our DD's will have to dispose of them....

I couldnt get into mine........... it me cost £29.00 from Bride in 1976, White,High waisted, bell sleeves and lace around hem, high neck and bodice, it was made into a christening robe when I had my son christened, so wont fit me , its still in the dressing up box and has gone a little yellow.

I also made my first one into a Christening dress and bonnet for my daughter.....mainly because her father had run off with a shelf stacker from Wales....oh the thearpy of cutting it up!

P.S. it all ended well......No 2 was a keeper!

So few white dresses and I thought I was the only one not to wear white. I wore a dress and coat in deep blue linen with a pink hat and gloves. It was a winter wedding.

This also raises the question of "what do you do with it afterwards"? I think that I left mine in the loft of one of the houses when we moved out!

I can't remember what I did with mine. When ex-DH left, I think I gave it to a charity shop. It was white crepe, empire line with trumpet sleeves and appliqued roses on the bodice. So modest compared with the ones worn today almost all of which seem to be strapless. They make the brides look cold (or is it 'cool'?) even on a warm day. I think Kate's designer got it just right.

I was married in white velvet, very slim fitting with long sleeves. My bridesmaids wore the same dress in baby blue velvet. It was 1967 and I had to have the dress taken in twice in the week before the wedding because I lost so much weight, I was 7stone wet through.

A friend of mine gave hers to an amateur dramatic theatre group after her marriage failed, she thought it would be useful in their pantomime production!

I had white guipere lace with trumpet sleeves made by my mother.It was 1969.She also made my two child bridesmaids dresses which were turquoise broderie anglaise.One of my bridesmaids managed to tear her dress at the reception,my bouquet dissapeared as soon as the party was over,my dad gave it to the lady in the off licence when he went for some more beer,and my mother later''lent'' my head dress and veil to the daughter of one of her workmates.I eventually threw the dress in the bin.My marriage has survived though, everyone thought it would not last five minutes.

I got married the first time in a cotton maxi dress that I made myself. I haven't a clue what happened to it which is odd as I normally make old clothes that I don't use anymore into something else. The second time, I wore a favourite skirt that I'd had for years, a white cotton blouse and a linen jacket. I still wear that skirt occasionally (very occasionally, as my current lifestyle is not really skirty). I married first when I was 21 and again when I was 42. Nearly time to start planning no.3 (at 63, just to keep the series neat).

My wedding dress (1965) was white brocade with a full skirt and long sleeves that ended in points over the hand. I made 4 bridesmaids dresses, also in white brocade with lemon satin sashes. My stepmother left home a week before the wedding taking her daughter with her....so ended up with just 3 bridesmaids on the day. Makes me smile now to remember the effort everyone made to not mention the fact that step-mother wasn't at the wedding. Her not being there made the day even more perfect for me.

First outfit for register office wedding in 1970 was a cream 'A line' dress with matching coat that had a little gold chain fastener across the front. Worn with big brown floppy hat. For our !986 church wedding (silver wedding this year), I wore a very simple cream Edwardian style wedding dress with matching hat and veil. It cost £99.99 and is still the most expensive dress I've ever bought.
