Favourite lines disappearing from shops

I have just posted on another thread that the marmite-flavoured Mini Cheddars that I used to love disappeared from the shops a few years ago with no warning. Has anyone else found favourite items (not just food) suddenly becoming unavailable?

GoldenGran, are you thinking of Bonbons? I was never too keen on those, but the kids liked them.
Nestle used to make a chocolate bar called Nestles Triple Bar, 3 layers, dark, white and milk chocolate, I loved them. Also, Fry`s made 2 similar bars, one had a layer of milk chocolate sandwiched between 2 layers of dark, and the other was the opposite way round, a layer of dark between 2 layers of milk. Loved them as well, but can`t remember the names.

I Have missed Fray Bentos corned beef and Cirio tomatoes hmm

yogagran Tue 18-Oct-11 22:19:21

Was it Fray Bentos who used to make the pies in a tin, all you had to do was take the lid off the tin then cook the pie

jinglej Tue 18-Oct-11 22:25:37

You can get Fray Bentos pies in the tin in the pound shop. We can't eat them these days though hmm because they are loaded with fat. But still delicious!

Cirio tomatos come in a carton now. They call them Polpapiu. (?!) hmm Good if you only use half a carton though. You can put the other half in freezer without decanting.

Does anyone remember Palm Toffee bars? Great for pulling your fillings out! Banana split was my favourite. I used to spend my bus fare on a bar and then walk home from school.

GoldenGran Wed 19-Oct-11 19:49:41

I think I do raggyI used to by highland toffees, I think they were two for a penny, and they glued your jaw together nicely!

GoldenGran Wed 19-Oct-11 20:01:18

Or even "buy"

Palm toffee, with a picture of a palm tree on the wrapper, mmmmm! Used to get awful sticky though as I ate my way through it.

Learnergrandma Tue 01-Nov-11 18:13:32

And Bluebird toffees, chocolate covered caramels in blue wrappers, sold individually in our school tuck shop.

kittylester Tue 01-Nov-11 18:32:13

Was it Bluebird toffee that came in a tray with a little hammer. We used to have the brazil nut one. smile And Caramac which now has some completely different confection in its place sad Did Fry's chocolates have the boys wearing caps on the front or was that something else?

GoldenGran Tue 01-Nov-11 18:52:45

kittylester I think it was. I used to love Moffat toffee which we got as a treat when we visited my Grandma, we passed through Moffat on the way. Does it still exist? ( the toffee I mean, not Moffat)!

Annobel Tue 01-Nov-11 18:59:41

Last time I stopped in Moffat the toffees were still there. I don't risk them because I have a mouth full of crowns and bridges. hmm

Terrys Old Gold and Black Magic were our Xmas favourites, now taste bland. I loved Spangles - Acid Drop ones and Blackcurrant being the best. Thank god Pink bathrooms are out - I've only liked white bathroom suites. The original Hovis - not the soft type we have now - though Cranks brown loaf is ok.

Oxon70 Thu 03-Nov-11 17:39:43

Another thing; I used to get a little tin of Cheese Flaps = cheese ravioli. Can't remember who made them, when did they go?

Oxon70 Thu 10-Nov-11 16:45:07

And those blocks of pressed dates that were so useful for cooking. anyone know where/if you can still get them?

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 10-Nov-11 17:22:40

Kitty - Caramac very much still around. Exactly the same as ever - but eye wateringly sweet. Great in small (well not that small) doses. Seen this week in Tesco

kittylester Thu 10-Nov-11 18:07:59

Cari I keep buying Caramac in the hope that it tastes the same but either I've changed or it has! smile

Stansgran Thu 10-Nov-11 18:16:26

what about Callard and Bowsers nougat neatly wrapped in rice paper then embossed foiled and then BOXED.

raggygranny Thu 10-Nov-11 18:35:18

Oxon70 I can still get those pressed dates in Morrison's.

Oxon70 Fri 11-Nov-11 16:05:12

And my nearest (to Oxford) is Aylesbury....boohoo
I shall check when I next go anywhere else.
