Happy absent and good news

I haven't been posting much since I reached New Zealand two weeks ago. This is partly because I have been very busy with my grandchildren and partly bercause absentdaughter has an ergonomic keyboard which makes me feel that I am typing while wearing boxing gloves.

However, I have news. Finlay Hunter - there's a name to conjure with - was born by C-section at 12.20 on Saturday afternoon (it's now Sunday morning in NZ). He weighed - wait for it - 9 lb 14 oz. Absentdaughter had hoped for a normal delivery but the boy turned out to have such a big head, it wasn't going to happen. It also turned out that previous C-sections had left her very vulnerable and prolonging labour any further could have been catastrophic.

Mum and baby are both well and both beautiful. I can't stop grinning like a coal scuttle.

Such a shame for you, absent. You need to take good care of yourself as well as looking after the family. Let's hope you shake off that cold quickly and get enough cuddles to last you until you finally emigrate!flowers

absent dose yourself up and get rid of it quickly, so you can fit in all those fabulous cuddles. Baby-gazing is very enjoyable, meanwhile, so it's lovely that you are nearby x
