jeni and I are flying to Lesbos and the weather will be warm and sunny.
We are going to a little place I know overlooking a bay. The gorgeous Greek waiter will place our table outside where we will have the best view of the little ships skimming across the waves. The sea will be very blue.
I am starting with a Buck's Fizz and jeni is having a diluted Pernod.
Suggestions please for starters, main course, dessert and drinks.
No chocolate for me!

Mmmm! Can't wait!

I wll be celebrating with my DCs and DGD but may I suggest that you try the taziki (sp?) with warm pitta bread or some dolmades for starters, perhaps kleftiko for your main course and finish with some fresh fruit with yoghourt. Enjoy!!

Thankyou, nannym - I like all those!. I am also thinking of a big meze, Greek salad and moussaka. Oh, and spinach tart, and deep fried calamari but not dolmades.

Maniac Sat 07-Apr-12 13:53:34

All sounds fantastic - except the calamari
I can hear the music.

I think I will have to stay with imported Champagne - I don't much like Greek wine.

jeni Sat 07-Apr-12 14:31:46

I'm the same! But who can object to a limitless bubbly? Surely not any GNetters?

Greatnan Sat 07-Apr-12 14:37:42

Well we won't have to drive because our chauffeur-driven limo will be taking us back to our private jet

jeni Sat 07-Apr-12 14:39:40

Wot! No broomstick?

Greatnan Sat 07-Apr-12 14:52:37

Not this time, we are being waited on hand and foot. I know how to show a girl a good time.

greatnan & jeni so you are doing a double Shirley Valentine eh? i would love to start with Calamari and salad followed by any of the fantastic fresh fish available followed by a fresh fruit pavalova drissled with a cool greek yougut.I'm not to fond of Greek wine but wouldn't say no to a long glass of ouzo and lemonade. Then off for a nice siesta followed by a boat trip around the bay this I know will appeal to jeni Enjoy I'm envy

jeni Sat 07-Apr-12 15:19:44

So long as its a boat with sails! Ouzo insteadofpernod? Haven't had that for years!

Greatnan Sat 07-Apr-12 16:11:14

Everybody is welcome - but no men, that would be carrying coals to Newcastle.
Our limo is immense and has chilled champagne all ready for us.

glammanana Sat 07-Apr-12 16:50:30

Not even a Tom Conti lookalike ? I wouldn't mind carrying his coals anywhere grin

Greatnan Sat 07-Apr-12 16:58:59

I was hoping nobody would mention him - you might start to suspect my motives in choosing a Greek island!
I did have two weeks on Lesbos a few years ago and I got into one of my usual tight corners and had to try a 17-point turn to get out. I backed the two rear wheels right over a low wall, so they were spinning uselessly in the air. Four men appeared out of nowhere - I think they were working in a field, and they just took a corner each and heaved the car back onto the road. I offered them money for a drink, but they woudn't take it. No, they didn't look like Conti! I have also been to Crete, Cyprus and Xante - I have found the Greek country people to be really kind and hospitable.

Easter Sunday -greece has to be slow cooked lamb Kyrie eleison to all

jeni Sat 07-Apr-12 20:22:10

Christie eleison. He has risen need!

jeni Sat 07-Apr-12 20:22:26

Indeed!!

jeni Sat 07-Apr-12 21:04:14

Actually, if you think about it, it could have happened at any time after the body was deposited. We use the Sunday because of the saying that in three days he will rise again!it isn't three days from fri pm to sun am is it?

Greatnan Sat 07-Apr-12 21:32:03

Hey, I am going to Lesbos to get away from religion - although I used to like singing the Kyrie at school! smile

jeni Sat 07-Apr-12 21:34:40

Yes agreed, but do you agree the timings are wrong? Or is it my maths?
I never thought of it before!

Annobel Sat 07-Apr-12 21:57:55

It isn't in three days; it's on the third day. Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Saturday was the Sabbath, so nothing much doing!
I think the Greek Orthodox Easter is later than the Catholic/Protestant one, so Lesbos should be free of Easter.

jeni Sat 07-Apr-12 22:00:13

Are you coming?

Annobel Sat 07-Apr-12 23:17:35

Think so. Should be able to find some nice food suitable for a veggie gran!

Greatnan Sat 07-Apr-12 23:21:13

My lovely restaurant will make you delicious vegetarian meals.
