Recognising other Gransnetters

Sometimes when I'm out and about I see an interesting woman of a certain age and wonder if she could be a Gransnetter. I was in London recently and kept bumping into someone who wore patterned leggings, an orange fleece and had short bright hair. She looked feisty (but all in the best possible taste). I even imagined a particular Gransnetter for that one.

Thought for a moment this thread had gone down the vajazzling route...! shockwink

I will be staying with my sister in Swinton, Manchester, from 15th to 20th May, before bringing her back to France with me. Anybody live around there?

Annobel Mon 09-Apr-12 16:20:18

The what, Anagram?

Greatnan Mon 09-Apr-12 16:21:33

Now, Annobel, don't pretend you don't know what she means! smile

Annobel Mon 09-Apr-12 16:22:04

I'm on the other side, Greatnan, in Poynton. I'll pm you my phone number if you would like to meet up.

Annobel Mon 09-Apr-12 16:45:03

Greatnan and Anagram, I have found a gap in my education, but wiki has sorted that out. blush

Anagram Mon 09-Apr-12 17:21:58

Isn't the internet a wonderful thing! wink

I had to do a bit of "googling" too Annobel. And I thought I was quite well informed about such things blush

As I have noticed we have another thread on the awfulness of children's behaviour today, I am adding more criteria to my gnetter spotting:

a woman of a certain age sitting in a cafe/restaurant glaring at any unruly children who might be there and muttering about how appalled she is by other people's 'brats'. As an added indication, she will be accompanied by a number of perfectly behaved little ones grin

That's a bit wide of the mark petallus. In my experience, children are children and will get up to mischief, know when to push it and when to toe the line, and my Gransnet grandkids are typical. This morning, before we all go out for lunch, they'll let off steam at home, have a mad half hour, and will then have a little pep talk about staying on their chairs and being polite, otherwise they'll be looking around for something to get up to. I will be too busy looking at them to notice what the others are up to, unless they run off to play with other children in the ball pool, which is fine with us.

Carol I was motivated in my comments by particular new thread 'Eating out with Grandchildren'

Carol Sat 14-Apr-12 10:31:10

Yes, I know, but those were a few comments - we don't all go round tutting at other people's children, and I don't see how Gransnetters can be stereotyped like that - we are all so very different. smile

Granb Sat 14-Apr-12 11:15:04

Good morning petallus. You've rumbled me and obviously recognised the absolute perfection of my 10month old GS wine

petallus Sat 14-Apr-12 11:37:39

Of course Carol I don't mean we are all the same. And I did put a grin by my comments.

Carol Sat 14-Apr-12 11:44:32

grin back at yer Petallus smile

SOOP Sat 14-Apr-12 12:18:59

I have just been catching up with this thread having been away for over a week.
I thought that I spotted a Gransnetter at the secc in Glasgow on 9th March at a spinning demonstration but I felt too shy to say anything incase I was wrong!!
By the way the red hat idea made me laugh- have you ever heard the saying "Red hat no knickers?!!!

petallus Sun 15-Apr-12 14:55:14

Yes I've heard it in which case can be wait for the warmer weather before we go with the red hats?

Nonny Sun 15-Apr-12 14:58:29

Good idea.

Anagram Sun 15-Apr-12 15:32:01

I've only heard the phrase "All fur coat and no knickers", so perhaps that would cover us for the winter months?

petallus Sun 15-Apr-12 17:23:43

My great gran was a real (pathological) miser and she'd do anything to save money. I was told she once made herself some knickers out of an old fur coat and I've always wondered whether she turned the fur inwards or outwards.

GoldenGran Sun 15-Apr-12 17:28:54

I thought it was red shoes, no knickers. I'm rather partial to red shoes...

granbunny Sun 15-Apr-12 18:23:33

red dress, no knickers. used my my grandad's grandma, who also said to her 'son's intended - "tha'll ave many a cowd arse for want of warm petticoat if tha' marries im'!
