What I see in the mirror....

My interest was piqued having come across this series in The Guardian, and today it was Robert Winston who explored what he saw in his mirror.
Having had my operation, I am still a little surprised to see the minor change in the contour of my face on one side, but realise that's just the superficial stuff.

I still see who I am: maybe a little too serious, kind wistful eyes, a tilt of the head........well you get the idea.

Just wondering what you see....?

I still see me, but an older me, in fact its my Mum looking back at me.... my eyes are a mirror of the life behind me and are hoping to a long life ahead of me. I see things there that have happened in the past and I see the hope of joy to the last.

Here's and odd thing - which I wrote a rather long poem about - I used to sit at my mum's flat in the years before she died and while she talked I could see myself in her mirror - and all the time I could see myself as 25....and since she went, I can see myself as an older woman....I just couldn't do it in relation to her - weird.

Oh dear is anyone seeing their dads men on here need not answer this one wink

I wish I could see my mother, as she was amazingly beautiful right into her 80s!

What I see in the mirror is a bit of a stranger, I'm afraid.

Depends on whether or not I'm wearing my specs. With, I'm lined with dark circles under the eyes. Without, I'm all soft-focus and not so bad, all things considered grin

Anagram Sun 15-Apr-12 13:15:09

Yes, SOOP, I've found that! And if the mirror's a bit dusty, I look even better....

SOOP Sun 15-Apr-12 13:24:06

Anagram ...and steamed-up can be totally flattering smile

NEVER look in the mirror wearing lenses. Dim the lights in the bathroom-they are all wretched halogen things put in by male bathroom designer so I leave them until they all die (and I look quite good in the dim with no lenses)and get the electrician to replace them-cue pitying looks but I no longer feel happy up a ladder with a dark bathroom and electricity at my fingertips.

I actually use a enlarging mirror sometimes - to pluck any intrusive hair on my chin- bahhh. THAT is truly scary.

I see my dad, a bit. It's the eyes, I think. DD1 says I haven't changed since I was ten years old, except for my face being a bit "looser at the seams", so to speak! grin I know which photograph she has in mind when she says that – one of me up a tree, standing on a branch wielding my home-made bow'n'arrow. Talking of which, DH has booked himslef, DD3 and me onto a three-evening archery course in May. Looking forward to that.

Will try and dig out a more recent photo (from about five years ago) which 'does the eyes' and post it on my profile, but I need some lunch first.

If I see my great grandma but hear my mother - who am I?

nanachrissy Sun 15-Apr-12 17:00:50

I've just looked and I don't know who it is but she doesn't look too happy! grin

GoldenGran Sun 15-Apr-12 17:15:37

My Mother definitely, and it is usually steamed up and without my glasses...so, a fine looking woman!?

gracesmum Sun 15-Apr-12 19:57:52

I was always told myopia was nature's way of helping us to cope with what is in the mirror!grin

Anagram Sun 15-Apr-12 20:03:32

Goodness, gracesmum, I've always been short-sighted! What does that say about me.....wink

GillieB Sun 15-Apr-12 20:09:07

I hate looking in the mirror apart from when I am putting on my make up when I use a magnifying one. The worst thing I find is trying to pluck stray hairs in my eyebrows - I can't see the wretched things and have to resort to feeling for them.
