What I see in the mirror....

My interest was piqued having come across this series in The Guardian, and today it was Robert Winston who explored what he saw in his mirror.
Having had my operation, I am still a little surprised to see the minor change in the contour of my face on one side, but realise that's just the superficial stuff.

I still see who I am: maybe a little too serious, kind wistful eyes, a tilt of the head........well you get the idea.

Just wondering what you see....?

Depends whether or not I've got my glasses on. Without them, on a good day I might think 'not bad' but then when the glasses go on, all these wrinkles and skin blemishes suddenly appear and I age ten years.

When I look in the mirror,I see many different people, amum a sister,a nan,a friend,a partner,an ex wife,I am many things to many people,I look at my hands and think of the stories they could tell, and my heart that says how much all these people mean to me,and hope that looks back at me in the mirror.

Just looked and was surprised to see my paternal grandmother. I rather like that. I may look like her but don't think I can match her wisdom.

I think I look like my maternal grandmother I have her nose and cheekbones although my forehead and eyes are my dads. However it is my mother who stares back at me.

Is it just me, or do changing room and hairdressers' mirrors always add at least 10 years to the face in front of them?sad

nanachrissy Mon 16-Apr-12 19:56:06

I look awful in changing room mirrors but at my hairdressers I look fabulous!

Then I get home! blush shock sad

Nelliedeane - if only we could all think like you. There's more to that reflection than the obvious wink

Butternut Tue 17-Apr-12 07:54:09

Indeed there is, RollOn. I find it's not the 'who' I see, it's more the 'what' I see behind the reflection looking back. smile

I can see my mum-I sound like her as well. Who I'd really like to look like is Carol Vorderman, so I'm always disappointed-just like my mum.

kittylester Tue 17-Apr-12 10:28:14

How does that happen nanachrissy - I thought it was just me. My hair even looks good 'before' at the hairdresser. confused

Butternut and Rollon Who I see is what I am and all my experiences and my people have shaped the person who I am today looking in the mirror,I see love, for them,my hands have held small babies, and parents hands, they have been clutched in pain of childbirth by my daughter, they held my mums hand as she passed away, they have soothed babies, children, caressed loversblush prepared countless meals and household chores for the people I love,my beloved dog and my animals have all felt that touch....that is what I see ..love. you are so right it is self reflection for a life lived

POGS Tue 17-Apr-12 18:25:14

I think my grandfather must have had a bike. I don't look like my mother or father but I do look like SHREK.

greenmossgiel Tue 17-Apr-12 18:35:19

POGS - gringrin!

Humbertbear Tue 17-Apr-12 22:34:18

I look my father, not my mother and my son looks like him too. My grand daughter looks like my fathers mother. The genes are very strong. I take after my dad and his family too and, to be honest, I am happy with that.
GillieB - it's time to treat yourself to a visit to a beautician to have the eyebrows done by someone who can see them!

What I see in the mirror depends on what I've been drinking. After a cup of tea or coffee mmm mmm, not bad (FMA!) slim-ISH, defo a few lines here and there, and the old jawline, well, could do better. The hair, glad to be grey-ISH, but fairly funky. Nice-ISH smile

But after a glass or two of vino collapso - ravISHing!!!!!! Samantha Brick? Nada! Bring it on Sam!

Carosanta, that just goes to prove what I tell my wife when she spends £20 on a pot of face cream. "I could get a bottle of whisky for half as much, that would look make you look beautiful to me." She hit me !!!! Why, I was just trying to save her money ! confused

glassortwo Thu 19-Apr-12 22:28:46

grin

glammanana Thu 19-Apr-12 22:31:37

mr.glamma has always asked why vanishing cream does not work ?

pompa Thu 19-Apr-12 22:40:00

Get him to try the whisky treatment instead, see if he thinks that works.

Perhaps we should have a controlled trial.:-

Each wife should buy their husband a bottle of whisky (other medications are available, brandy, rum etc have all been proved to work). Then get his opinion before and after treatment. To ensure that outside influences are not involved, the test may have to be repeated over a few weeks..

glammanana Thu 19-Apr-12 22:46:02

pompa the message has been relaid to himself grin he says it may take a while for the results to be published .

nelliedeane Fri 20-Apr-12 20:30:44

reading about the whiskey treatment has reminded me of something I heard.

wife..I am going to spend £5,ooo on a boob job.
husband ....no need my dear this will be so much easier and not so painful and an awful lot cheaper

wife is intrigued and asks about this idea of his.
husband ..take one length of toilet paper and fold into half and half again, and then rub in between your boobs.

wife disbelieving...well what good will that do.
husbands parting shot on his way out.
well my darling it has done absolute wonders for your backside...grin
