I haven't taken offence - I very rarely do. I just want people to stop reading something into my OP that was never intended.

Just seems an odd thread to start if it was not aimed at anyone in particular, and indeed, just posted to make everyone feel comfortable. Hey ho - each to their own

I think this theead followed naturally from some things that were said in other threads, including (but not exclusively) some comments about spelling and grammar. None of the bad feeling on this thread has been generated by anything greatnan has said in it or anywhere else!

Or, to put it another way, I knew (or thought I knew) where the opening poster was coming from when she started this thread. It digressed from there, as threads do, and now I've forgotten the details of "where she was coming from". All that got lost in what followed which had nothing whatsoever to do with the opening poster.

BB was the author of wonderful childrens stories. 'Down the Bright Stream' and 'The Little Grey Men' being two [read to me, and then to my son] and then passed on to our grandson.

I digress...

I've still got a copy of The Little Grey Men in the bookshelf, I loved that book. Perhaps my GC will enjoy it when they're a little older too

yogagran You've made my day My teacher, Mr Hawkins, read it chapter by chapter to the class in 1948. I was spellbound. As a very old man, the author lived in a bumblebee-like cottage called The Round House, next door to my father, in a small village in Northants. Aren't the illustrations beautiful?

I'm going to get it off the shelf NOW soop and re-read it. I'll start tonight when I get back from dog training classes. Good timing as I finished the book that I was reading last night
