bettyboo22 You sound a lot like me. I drop into this wonderful forum regularly. When I'm down...I'm uplifted. When I'm angry...I get things off my chest. When I'm uplifted...I like to share. When I'm just plain "daft as a brush"...I meet like-minded GN's and we behave in a ridiculous fashion and laugh a lot. I hope that you will enjoy being one of the gang.

Hi Betty, I'm a newby too.

I don't know where you live but here in Worcestershire if you just go for a walk people smile and sometimes start to talk. We moved here nearly 3 years ago and it is not easy to make friends when you are retired but I heard some wise words recently and that is that when talking to people you don't know ask about them and show a big interest in everything they say and they will think you are the most interesting person they have met. It's true, I do it all the time. Lots of people want to talk about themselves and not hear about others!

When I lived in Surrey I went to yoga and no one ever spoke to me but here in Malvern I go to pilates and everyone is really friendly.

Do any of the churches near you have coffee mornings? The drinks are usually very cheap and people friendly. Also those Saturday morning fund raisers are a place where you can meet people and chat.

FRom what I have seen on GN you will find plenty of friends. Good Luck

Hi bettyboo! I'm not sure what you mean - if you want to meet up with someone in person you'd need to give the area where you live.

I think quite a few of us are short of close friends, due to various circumstances, but coming in here is the next best thing!
