haha! Am not a knee sniffer but I used to talk to the bath...is that better or worse?? I occasionally think about it and why I did but have no idea!!

Re hairy bits..I still keep pits and bits tidy! grin

I just woke up and checked my knees and armpits, no smell of biscuIts here. hmm. Sniffing knees baggy, Nightowl and Anagram is weird but licking them first is more weird RIverwalk. Isn't that just what I did confused

Re sucking flannels, I come from a family of flannel suckers. Son was caughtt sucking on his Uncle's toothbrush when we visited. It was larger than any I had ever seen and I think appealed to son's flannel/toothbrush sucking tendencies. disgusting child

I used to like to sniff my knees but it's so long ago I can't remember what they smelled of.

Welcome to the club, Sook!

I used to like the smell of my bare arms in the summer. As for knees, I remember trying to convince my mother that they were naturally grey in colour - I used to climb trees a lot and I think they probably were grubby. As for hairy armpits - not a problem any more.

johanna I think you mean depilatory (not deforestation).

I have never been especially hirsute and since the menopause have been less, rather than more hairy. I occasionally shave my legs – it's only the inside of the lower calves – and have the bikini line addressed – I like to swim– but there's no hair in the armpits, so I haven't shaved them for 10 years.

I cannot recall sniffing my knees in the bath as a child. I haven't had a bath for at least 18 months (I shower in the mornings), so haven't sniffed the knees recently. However, I couldn't resist trying while sitting at my desk and reading this thread. They simply smell of the vanilla body butter applied after this morning's shower – so really rather biscuity by default.

I shave my legs - when I start to go swimming again - and armpits. My mother was a dancer and introduced me to the delights of the razor. I slap on the antipersp and body lotion too and a quick spritz of perfume - or fragrance as it's now called - before I go out. I'm due for a breast squashing screening session at the end of the month and I was so relieved it was a reasonably early morning appointment so that I can go home and smother myself in unguents once more.

We had a girl in our class at school who smelled very strongly of BO and the boys flocked round her! She was very attractive but the smell.....

Have you read some of the responses to the original article? It worries me that some men find hairy bits on women disgusting. Why is it all right to think that adult women should be hairless below the neck like, guess what, little girls? We all worry about the sort of man who finds little girls a turn-on, so why do some of them obviously prefer us to imitate children? I gave up shaving my armpits and legs in my 20s. My husband can't see the point of shaving for women, but then he has a beard (which I like - no more stubble burn) so maybe his isn't your average male opinion.

When I was a child I used to think my arms and knees smelled of summer after a day playing outside, and although I don't play so much now, after a day in the garden, they still do. smile

Blimey! hairy below the neck is the least of my problems. What is it about middle/older age when your body insists on taking on a male profile, like wider waists and facial hair?

pollytunnel Fri 04-May-12 22:21:36

Facial hair OMG I refuse to have facial hair....The first one appeared several years ago..I couldn't believe that this almost black thing was growing out of my chin....It got plucked immediately and has been ceremoniously plucked by me or hubby as soon as it shows its head ever since...WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT...I refuse to grow a beard..I have grey hair and a thicker waist...boobs that face south..all this I can live with but a BEARD...no.

I must say I don't know if this is the right thing to do but it appears less often these days so I live in hope that it will take the hint eventually and BUGGER OFF.

Anagram Fri 04-May-12 22:25:28

hmm - not in my experience, I'm afraid, polytunnel!

harrigran Fri 04-May-12 23:07:00

Nor mine, i'm afraid pollytunnel I am so paranoid that I constantly feel for the first prickle as it breaks the skin and dash off to get the tweezers.
