Good Morning all! sunshine

crimson Thu 11-Oct-12 07:07:54

Same here jeni; usually wait for all 3 alarms to go off, switch them off then go back to sleep and hopefully wake up again. This time woke up at 6 and got up. This usually only happens if I'm going to have a [very rare] nice happening that day. Apart from a computer engineer coming out to change my computer at work [why; it still works..why does everything have to be changed all the time..no wonder there's no money anywhere] this is not one of those days [alas].

Just as well I like to be up early, as Gatsby, Juragran's old dog, heaves herself slowly up the stairs at 6.30 a.m. and stands by my bed just looking at me, but I know it means 'Get up and feed me'. Why is it impossible to ignore the look in a dog's eyes? The cat sleeps next to me on the bed, and her purring is very soothing. I will miss them both next week when I go home.
It is now very misty every morning, but some days the sun burns off the mist and then we have a nice day. The colours of the forest that cloak the hills all around the house are wonderful. I am off to Neuchatel for lunch with a friend tomorrow - I hope the weather is kind.

jeni Thu 11-Oct-12 07:11:42

3alarms? I only use 2! Then I roll over and go back to sleepgrin
Oh we'll, look out Wales here I come!

Morning all and thank you for all your lovely messages yesterday. We had a really nice day catching up with old friends and celrbrating out friend's life. The funeral was very emotional but his wife seemed more relaxed by the time we left. We were totally drained.

Have as good a day as you can todayflowers

absentgrana Thu 11-Oct-12 07:33:43

Good morning. I am usually up early – about six – but rarely in my office where my computer is located until later after showering and dressing. However, I am growing increasingly irritable about BBC Breakfast and its giggling girlie presenters, slapdash use of language and trivial content, so I thought I'd switch off the television and bring my cup of tea upstairs to see what's happening on Gransnet. I did stay long enough to find out that the weather is not very promising but, in spite of that, I hope you all have a good day.

Grannylin Thu 11-Oct-12 08:02:34

Hope you have an extended happy anniversary today kitty flowers

Still haven't found that blessed mouse....Daisy was in the fireplace, my knitting-bag, scrabbling at the back of the bookcase - all over the place last night, after a tiny field-mouse that she'd brought in just before we went to bed. Hence a night of listening for further scrabbling and being careful where we stand this morning for fear of standing on half a mouse-cadaver....grin!

absentgrana Thu 11-Oct-12 09:47:25

Marelli There's only one thing more horrible than standing barefoot on half a dead mouse in the dark and that is standing on half a dead rat. Mind you standing barefoot on a slug is pretty horrid too.

Little boys decided Mummy and Granny needed an early start today (5ishshock) so I was reading to LF in his room while DD tried to pacify LFLB (Littlest fella's little brother) in bed with her. She has a dreadful cough but at least wasn't coughing all night like when I arrived. The industrial strength anti biotics are beginning to kick in. but she won't just stay in and rest or sleep as I had hoped. When I got here all she c ould do was nap on the sofa but is now beginning to feel she has a little more strength - a dangerous thing! Boys have gone to nursery and I am enjoying the peace (!) DD has gone to 2 lectures sadand will bring the boys back after the second, so I will try to make myself useful doing a bit of cooking/ironing/ getting washing out of machine etc.
SIL gets back tonight but after bath/ bedtime so I will help with that and then drive home. [good granny] emoticon. Actually - we need one of these - halo, perhaps? .......*Geraldine/Cari*!!

Marelli Thu 11-Oct-12 11:04:15

We sometimes get slugs on our kitchen floor during the night, absent shock! In fact, we started leaving the light on which did work....but a bit expensive! It did deter them though! I can cope with all sorts of things.. but not slugs....yeauch!

whenim64 Thu 11-Oct-12 11:19:18

I get the occasional slug, too. My kitchen floor is on the same level as the garden, and once they've squeezed under the tightly fitting door they boogie round my kitchen and leave a trail. I never thought about keeping a light on, but I have a low nightlight I can plug in, so I'll try it.

Marelli Thu 11-Oct-12 11:25:16

I'd hate to think of them getting into our plate cupboard shock Good luck with the night light, when!

I have NOT managed to get in touch with the local CAB. It seems to have gone automatic (I hate voice menus!) and has no one available to speak to this morning.

Can anyone here help? Someone - sorry I can't remember who, it was a while back - has mentioned it!

Going over to the 'am I being unreasonable thread'...........

annodomini Thu 11-Oct-12 11:49:42

This is the web site for Didcot CAB
www.citizensadvice.org.uk/index/bureau_detail.htm?serialnumber=101199

They do seem to have rather limited opening hours but according to this page you should have been able to contact their phone line today. The web site:

www.adviceguide.org.ok might have something to say about neighbour issues and, as ivy is a destructive plant, you should have more of a case than some of the neighbours I have come across!

AlieOxon Thu 11-Oct-12 12:09:08

Thanks Anno. I have at least confirmed their opning hours - will have to go there tomorrow but it is an uphill walk from where I will have to park!

I have gleaned some legal points from the advice guide, and will have to look out my papers on my house......I may have a right of access....

annodomini Thu 11-Oct-12 12:13:29

Adviceguide.OK? !! meant uk, of course!

AlieOxon Thu 11-Oct-12 13:24:24

Is the uk ok?????

baubles Fri 12-Oct-12 06:09:04

Good morning all, it's raining! sad but its Friday! smile

AlieOxon Fri 12-Oct-12 08:31:54

Morning from me too.
Up, not dressed, just checking emails and of course GN....have to get ready to go to the CAB. Taking camera with pictures of next door garden. hmm

Bags Fri 12-Oct-12 08:50:10

Good luck at CAB, alie.

Must go and get dressed...
Outdoors not inviting today
Probably just as well
As I didn't sleep well.
Well, I did,
But I woke well too
And came down at one
And made tea
And went back up at three.
A slow day today methinks.

Such a useful word, "well"

eGJ Fri 12-Oct-12 08:56:33

Woke very early; finished of The Casual Vacancy; now to that pile of ironing! Slow day for me too Bags reading JKRowling didn't induce sleep.

absentgrana Fri 12-Oct-12 08:57:47

Good morning. It's Friday so bin day. It was useful to change the cats' litter trays at 7 am so that I could include the discarded litter with the rest of the rubbish. I am now having a quick look at Gransnet before putting on the painting clothes and giving the kitchen ceiling a second coat of white emulsion. You'd think it would be pretty straightforward but 8 recessed lights tend to slow me down. Mr absent is sure that they can be removed from the recesses but can't work out how so I just have to go round them very carefully with a fine paintbrush. I hope this coat will be enough.

Nelliemoser Fri 12-Oct-12 08:58:41

Good morning all I have been doing my Friday morning "Sit up very straight and take my Alendronic Acid" routine. (a biphosphonate to repair thining bones).

You should just take with water and nothing else for at least half an hour. They are very prone to giving you all sorts of reflux & acid indigestion problems. So no slumping or bending.
So far, by following these directions to the letter I have not had much of a problem. It takes an hour out of Friday morning though. I am glad I don't take them daily.
Still its more time to browse Gransnet. I have had my hour now. So to the Shredded Wheat and the gurgling tum.

whenim64 Fri 12-Oct-12 09:04:57

Own up! Which one of you gave me this stinking cold? It's going to be a sofa and snooze sort of a day for me. Keep away from me - don't want you catching it grin
