Hurrah for the Jubilee celebrations. What a wonderful day. We are very good at coping with( or ignoring )the rain. Well done Her Majesty. Still more to come. On Tuesday we will be at Layer Marney Tower in Essex welcoming her majesty, Queen Elizabeth 1st., with faeries ,tumblers, a Tudor picnic, juggling and Tudor games,Musicians and dancing. Come rain or shine!

It's a very young Prince Edward.

Mark Phillips is standing next to Anne. It was before Diana's time. The young boy is Edward.

You could be right! I remember being in France at the time of the wedding with my children on holiday!
The silver jubilee was the year before I moved to the SW!

Anagram Sun 03-Jun-12 22:52:48

It was 1977, jeni!

Diana didn`t come onto the scene until 1980, they were married in 1981, and Wills was born in 1982. The Silver Jubilee was 1977.

Do you know, I just enjoyed the sheer pageantry of it all, as has been said before, Britain must be the only country able to put on such a show, come rain, shine, or whatever, and the people really just love (I think) to prove that they are British and will cheer louder than anyone else to prove it. I am sure someone is going to disagree with that, but I like to the happy things, there is so much sad news everywhere these days.

Hunt Mon 04-Jun-12 09:27:48

Thanks for that PRINTMISS, I thought I'd strayed into a different topic! Didn't anyone else just 'enjoy'?

Jacey Mon 04-Jun-12 09:43:01

As I put on another thread Hunt ...if I'd still been living in London I would have gone along ...whatever the weather. crown flag
I just agreed with an observation of the quality of the BBC presenters ...which I gather has been picked up by the press today hmm

Lets hope the weather holds for tonight's event flag

I agree, we Brits know how to enjoy a good parade.

I hope you have all been celebrating locally as well as watching TV. What have you all been doing? We went to a 1950s party on Saturday where we won the quiz because DH seems to remember every TV advertisement from those days! Yesterday we all crowded into a small room for our 'street party' because it was persisting down with rain but we all made the best of it.

Today we have a picnic in the park and then the lighting of a bonfire on the Worcestershire Beacon. I'm trying to persuade DH to climb up to watch but not getting very far!

Would love to hear what you have all been doing.

Alison, did you previously work in social welfare?

You've all put on a jolly good show there!

Jacey Mon 04-Jun-12 10:23:57

jj did your daughter enjoy watching the pageant? Where did she stand? flag

AlisonMA Mon 04-Jun-12 10:37:27

j04 why do you ask that?

j04 Mon 04-Jun-12 12:02:08

They were in the tower bridge area jacey. Got rather wet and cold but it was worth it for her American friend to see it all. I'm not sure she would have done it otherwise. She likes her comfort! grin

We had the Grandchildren for the weekend. On Sunday we took them to a local street party during which we kept hearing rumours that there was to be Royal visit,I didn't believe it,but we hung around because our little 6yearold Lily was so excited at the prospect. At one o' clock, The Duke of York turned up along with Princess Beatrice ad Princess Eugenie ! He looked a bit grumpy and aloof, but the girls were a delight, they mingled with the crowd and chatted away. Princess Beatrice came over to Lily, shook her hand and talked to her for a few minutes. I don't think Lily will ever forget it, it made he day,she was a little disappointed that they were not wearing crowns, but thrilled she had met a real Princess. And the photo? Granny was so surprised she forgot to get the camera out and there isn't one.blush flag

AlisonMA Tue 05-Jun-12 10:35:20

Golden That was wonderful for Lily and I bat you had tears in your eyes and a lump in your throat.

Last night we climbed to the top of the Malvern Hills for the lighting of the beacon. It was a great occasion with thousands of people, no police, no stewards and no trouble. A bit of competitive singing of the national anthem which was fun. I don't know how some of the old people made it but they did as well as babies in slings, young children and dogs.

On the way down we looked out over several counties, wonderful view.
