I was completely choked with emotion watching the Queen walking alone down the aisle of St. Paul's at the beginning of the thanksgiving service. For her, today must surely be what it's all about and for the first time she has not had Prince Phillip by her side.

Agree merlotgran ...thought they might have shuffled up the guys ..Charles with her, Wills with Camilla, and Harry with Kate ...but suppose not protocol

I think she looked a bit happier today. Hopefully, he is on the mend.

I thought they did go downstairs at one point? Probably went for a pee and a cuppa.

I agree they do a good job and mean no disrespect but presumably they are much better looked after by the docs than the rest of us. I think they were probably given a good check over afterwards yesterday and thay is how they found the infection. Most of us would have discovered it days later when the infection had taken hold. He certainly didn't look unwell on the barge.

My 93 yr. old mother has had a few urinary tract infections and the symptoms can be quite alarming as it usually begins with confusion and strange behaviour not unlike dementia. Antibiotics usually sort it out and, of course, drinking plenty of fluids. I bet this isn't the first time Prince Phillip has suffered a bladder infection.

Has anybody noticed that Poor old DofE thread is only one away from the one about ressuscitating the elderly? Spooky! (Probably isn't now, though as I will have moved it up!)

It's amazing that going to the loo is as important as eating yet we openly accept one but go all out to disguise the other to our detriment

Yes, it's like that old story about the young man in Victorian times who took his lady friend for a trip in a rowing boat and they were swept out to sea... when they were eventually found it was discovered that they had both died of a burst bladder.

The news says that the D of E is in hospital 'as a precaution'. Intravenous antibiotics - a precaution? I think not!

No loos for those who had to be early arrivals at St Paul's. Apparently it was perfectly awful for early arrivals at the coronation in 1953 – six or seven hours without a pee. Enough to turn anyone into a republican.

And no beds, apparently, for some unemployed people who were volunteer stewards yesterday....some slept under London Bridge.

… and changed into their "uniforms"in public in the rain. Apparently, they thought that they were gong to be paid until they turned up for the bus to bring them to London. I wonder what the next episode – the Olympics – will involve.

That's the 'big society' for you!
