I am officially a pensioner as today I activated my state pension! Apparently I could have been collecting it since January so a bit of back pay due ...how nice as it softens the blow of admitting I am a certain age on the outside whilst in my head I am about 30!!!

I'm 63 this week and still wondering what I'll do when I grow up! I left my last job 2 years ago because I couldn't stand in that shop and do nothing for one second more. I didn't consider it retirement though, as I would take another job if it paid really well, I only had to go in when I felt like it, I could have my lunch breaks when I was hungry, leave early to catch the bus home etc, etc. Funny, there aren't many of that kind of job around!

Still think what ever any one else says that pensioner is a horrible term , surely in this day and age of baby boomers we deserve something a little more flattering ie , seniors as face it like it or not thats what we are , we are rapidly getting to the age we know not many folk older than ourselves x

No, 'seniors' is just as bad to my mind, Nonu! Perhaps 'Wise Ones'? grin

Are you having a small laugh ?

jeni Tue 03-Jul-12 18:48:15

What me?

jeni Tue 03-Jul-12 18:52:46

William Dunbar medieval poet. Lament for the makers. I've always loved it!

Anagram Tue 03-Jul-12 18:55:55

But it actually comes from the Catholic Office of the Dead -
"Sinning daily, and not repenting, the fear of death disturbs me. Because there is no redemption in Hell, have mercy on me, O God, and save me."

jeni Tue 03-Jul-12 19:02:47

Agreed!smile and Dunbar took that phrase and built this wonderful poem around it!

Nonu Tue 03-Jul-12 19:13:42

Em , excuse me , what has this to do with naming pensioners , or seniors , hello [laugh}

jeni Tue 03-Jul-12 19:20:48

It's GRANSNET so why does it have to have anything to do with the thread?confused

jeni Tue 03-Jul-12 19:22:01

My thought trail went from 'one foot in the grave ' to Dunbar!
Ok! I've got a weird mind!

Nonu Tue 03-Jul-12 19:26:41

ohhhhh !

jeni Tue 03-Jul-12 19:29:46

But that's better than a wyrde mind!

Nonu Tue 03-Jul-12 19:31:24

I have to say although I am getting on a bit [not in my mind , you understand } I certainly don"t feel I have one foot in the grave and if that are your thoughts you should dimiss them pronto , girly x

Anagram Tue 03-Jul-12 19:31:29

Nothing wrong with your mind, jeni - threads meander! It's all part of life's rich tapestry.

Anagram Tue 03-Jul-12 19:32:19

Nonu ! hmm

Nonu Tue 03-Jul-12 19:34:58

An ex boyfriend of mine (many years ago) tried to explain the difference between male and female thinking.
He decided that males start with an idea, that then goes a-b-c-d etc.
Women start with an idea, that will then explode out radially with lots of radials emanating from the centre, unlike male "logical" progression.
I call male thinking stodgy and unimaginative on the whole!

Anagram Tue 03-Jul-12 19:40:41

Yes, I agree (although I have to admit, sometimes if there's a practical problem, male thinking can usually solve it better than mine!)

jeni Tue 03-Jul-12 19:42:19

No. We think of LOTS of ways to solve a problem while men will only think of one!
