Reading on another thread a few of us seem to have the same worry, how do we let our friends on Gransnet know of our demise, does anyone have any good ideas on how to get around this?

Anagram Thu 05-Jul-12 21:56:19

Yes, it has a webcam.

jeni Thu 05-Jul-12 22:05:29

Ok. Find the app page and look for Skype and install . It should be free.

Anagram Thu 05-Jul-12 22:07:46

Ooh! That's a bit scary....will have a go! grin

jeni Thu 05-Jul-12 22:18:33

You have to have a skype ID . when you've got it. I think I can then Skype you so long as I know your Skype user name!
You will have to pm it it to me!
We both have to be on line at the same time.
I'm to bed now.

Get in touch tomorrow. After midday I'm busy til thengrin (hair appointment)

I did a skype conference call last Christmas with my family, but I don't think we could see all of us ,although we could all talk. Not tried since confused

It has improved I gather,

I do think we need some help from tech.

I do think a GN sponsored conference is a good, idea.

It could be partially funded by advertising!

After all. We are the spenders.

GN might look to people like saga to help with costs?

phoenix is this within your sphere?

I do 'hangout' conference calls with my sons - but it is iGoogle, not skype. It's better. Still use skype as a back up though. Useful to have more than one means of video calls, in case one 'drops' - as they are want to do!

glassortwo Fri 06-Jul-12 08:28:42

The Christmas singalong used web cam and telephone linked by BT I think.

j04 Fri 06-Jul-12 09:11:07

jeni do you think GN actually get that much advertising? Perhaps just enough to keep the site going? I don't know.

Not sure Saga would be interested. They have go their own website.

j04 Fri 06-Jul-12 09:11:52

I think you might be sticking your neck out in asking for help from Tech. grin

Anagram Fri 06-Jul-12 09:25:40

Yes, they're still working on the crescent moon! grin

AlieOxon Fri 06-Jul-12 10:21:37

Back later - have to go to Oxford.........will see Skype thread then?

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 10:23:36

I'm just floating ideas,GNHQ have said they'll keep an eye on the new thread and see what they can do to 'facillitate' our plans!

AlisonMA Fri 06-Jul-12 11:14:39

Skype is just so easy! Just google skype and then follow the instructions. I use it all the time with DS2 and Dil2 who live in NL and sometimes DS3 & fiancee join in as well. It wouldn't work for a big GN confernece call though as everyone would be speaking at once!!!

I would be up for a big GN get together although conference sounds a bit like hard work to organise for someone as they would have to decide on subjects, speakers etc. What about a 'big lunch' somewhere central with a block booking at a hotel for those who wanted to stay over and continue the event? Somewhere with good road and rail links perhaps? Are there many GNs who don't drive?

glassortwo Fri 06-Jul-12 11:26:53

I would be up for a GN get together, as long as I enough notice to give DD dates so she can book time off work.

greenmossgiel Fri 06-Jul-12 15:50:31

I would love to have a GN get-together! I don't drive now, though, but am close to a rail link - (Gally's close by, too). Also one of my other friends 'lurks' on GN, but doesn't post. She may also be very interested.

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 15:52:41

GNHQ did say they will watch this possibility with interest. There is also the possibly of Skype meetings.(see Skype thread)

I`d love it if it could be at a location that`s fairly central, can`t afford train fare for too long a distance.

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 17:56:50

Well Birmingham is central lots of hotels

greenmossgiel Fri 06-Jul-12 18:27:25

Perhaps we should figure out how many would like to meet, and then choose a location that works out for us all? I'm in Fife, as is Gally with Elegran in Edinburgh. *Soop is Argyll (Kintyre) as is Bags(Argyll). em, should she want to come, is in Dundee, I think? Glass is further south, in Newcastle, and I think Absent is in Darlington? Then, we have the GN's in the Liverpool area. Maybe a little bit further north than Birmingham for a venue, perhaps?

glassortwo Fri 06-Jul-12 18:27:56

If we know in advance you can pick train tickets up at a reasonable cost, the rail companies usually release the special offers in 3 month blocks.

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 18:30:10

Great green looks like you're IC.
(GNHQ did say they'd help if possible)

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 18:30:55

There's a lot of us southwest as well!

jeni Fri 06-Jul-12 18:31:52

That should be in the south!

Butternut Fri 06-Jul-12 18:36:38

Give enough notice for me to get across the Channel!
