We were married in 1965 and few of our friends - all tough northern rugby players - would have been seen dead wearing a ring. In fact the last straw for my DH, and the reason he gave up playing rugby at 40 was seeing one of the young blokes taking out his earring before playing! Our son does wear a wedding ring though and is just as macho and manly as his Dad so it doesn't really mean a thing does it?
