The close!

Is this a new sitcom jeni ...sounds intriguing....

Are you suggesting that the residents of our close are funny? This is a serious anthropological study of a group of neighbours, all past retirement age who live in 'close' proximity to each other! (a geriatric archers)

But you did say, jeni, on another thread, that they were all 'mildly eccentric'!

Wait and see!

The idea of a GN sitcom/soap has been wandering in and out of my brain. But you have a real life offering j while we wait for inspiration

First. The cast!
1 old git next door, the original grumpy old man. His hobbies are, shooting wild life! Cycling,( well at least it gets him out for the day) being too busy to do any thing that he's asked to do ( doing what nobody knows), watching his parking lot.

2 angel. She is married to git. She makes him go cycling even if he doesn't want to so that he is out of her hair. She has a heart of gold. She's a p/t house keeper at an Abbeyfield house, does tai chi, visits her her dd in Antibes, takes some of her old dears ( she's 70) out for trips and keeps an eye on me!

3 S on my other side. We very rarely see her as she is a keen twitcher and goes twitching all over the world. She also spends a lot of time up north with her 'friend' she is a very pleasant divorcee in her 60s. Her son is I think living there as well at the moment,

4&5 E and J . They are in their 80s, she still does all the gardening, decorating etc. he is barely5ft high and almost the same round. He knows everyone, been every where, won't pay the full price for anything then moans when the result is not as good as he wanted! He boasts he takes about 23 pills a day, is on oxygen and tried to replace his garage roof! the emergency ambulance is not unknown at his bungalow.

6 M a lovely meek old lady in her 80s who leaves her bungalow promptly at 9am every morning come rain or shine to walk the mile to the paper shop and then back again. I never seen her without a smile.

7 P a political enthusiast, retired civil servant, has our local mp Lian Fox round to tea regularly. You can always tell when he's coming . She flies the union flag on a flagpole outside her bungalow.

M and P have just gone on a cruise together (first time for both) on the ? Rhine. So no doubt we will hear about it when we all come out of hibernation during this little rainy spell!
Talk about two innocents abroad!

As I said, all is quiet in the close at present as we are all sheltering! But if and when the sun returns ,the close becomes a hive of activitity.

Watch this spot

Oh I forgot me! I'm very quiet, retiring and modest. I prefer to observe rather than do. But I seem to be the only one (apart from his wife) who will face up to git!

6&7 M&P sound interesting is there a liaison or gossip is either betrothed to another are we like to see any hair pulling and handbag slapping....keep watching jeni have some virtual binoculars.....

I wondered if you had mentioned the semi retired lady at number mumble mumble with the glass of vodka tonic in her hand, the binoculars at the ready whenever young Miguel is out gardening, and the recycing box full of empties? She is away a lot, I believe she calls it cruising (and we all know what that means) drinking cocktails with nice young men in uniform. I suspect she's got one in every port.

Miguel is he the one that always does the gardening in wellies and a pair of bright orange budgie smugglers ?Or am I confusing him with Gary ?

Gary is the the in the blue speedos with the very tiny logo (ask Jeni, she'll have had the binos on him!)

Meant to add, Miguel's logo is not small, but a big one

Cat next door! Very elderley now, called oddie!

Apart from git ( whose been saying he'd never reach 40 since his 35th birthday and is now 72) going cycling in the Spanish mountains saying he's not long for this world , no.

One day, he came in a temper to my front door, saying " would my bloody visitors move their car as it was parked on his patch" his daughter came up behind him while he was ranting, tapped him on the shoulder and said " actually it's my visitor" this is typical!

You need a street party Jeni ...
