Just for once everything went his way , congratulations Andy Murray..flag

The tennis has been fantastic, Andy Murray has been on fire!
I've been sucked in to these Olympics now, and I have never watched any sport except tennis before.
Our athletes have risen to the occasion and done us proud.
Well done to them all flag with bells on!

jeni Sun 05-Aug-12 17:31:45

Well done Benflag tight lines mateflag

Annobel Sun 05-Aug-12 18:49:35

Aw, bad luck, Andy and Laura. But a silver medal is good going for young Laura and she'll be only 22 next time round.

gracesmum Sun 05-Aug-12 18:59:17

A bit much for Andy to do 2 Gold medal finals in one afternoon! Nobody should despise the Silver medal - what an achievement!flag

They were up against the best in the world; it was a big ask. Best players won. Doing well in the showjumping as well, aren't we? Good to see a sport where some of the participants are even older than me smile.

Back again after a busy few days - ancient mother and grandchildren.

WOW what a glorious time I am having watching the games - I am not remotely sport minded, but I am so enjoying this is is wonderful what shall we do when it is ended?

dahlia Sun 05-Aug-12 21:02:07

I for one will let out a big cheer! Sorry to be a misery, but although I am so pleased to see Team GB doing so well, and appreciate all the hard work all concerned put into their sports, as a non-sporty person I am finding the Olympics day in, day out, really wearing. In our present living conditions (having building work done) there is no escape as DH loves it all - though he is kind enough to turn down the sound from time to time! flag

jeni Sun 05-Aug-12 21:14:22

Spend more time on GN? whitewavei think deserving is missing you?

whitewave Mon 06-Aug-12 10:05:17

I am sorry but I seem to have missed who deserving is - do apologise I am not sure if I was talking to her though as I have been off for a while doing my daughter/grandmother duties. Can you enlighten me jeni Thanks?

Annobel Mon 06-Aug-12 10:10:08

It does seem inequitable that Ben Ainslie has to race for a week and Andy Murray has to play four or five matches to gain a gold medal whereas a gymnast performs for a minute on an apparatus to get the same thing! Admittedly the training the said gymnast has undergone to arrive at this peak of performance is gruelling and involves immense sacrifice.

whitewave Mon 06-Aug-12 10:12:26

up to them all I say!

Madpotter Mon 06-Aug-12 10:13:00

I am currently holidaying in Australia so not seeing much of the Olympics as the Aussie TV only seems to shows the bits featuring Aussies. If a GB team member wins they jump before the medal ceremony to the next Aussie event. They are not happy with their medal tally especially as little neighbour New Zealand is beating them. We have learnt not to mention the Olympics in polite company. A bit like Basil Fawlty not mentioning the war!

Grannylin Mon 06-Aug-12 10:30:59

They don't like the 'whingeing poms' outclassing them, do they? Was surprised to see that one of the leading stories in the Sydney Herald was the problem with the US flag unfurling when Serena won gold and no mention of the success of TeamGB!Enjoy the sun and your holiday.

whitewave Mon 06-Aug-12 10:32:38

Wear the Union Jack with pride and a huge smile - you don't need to mention it - they will know!

Gally Mon 06-Aug-12 10:34:28

Madpotter I too am in Australia for 9 weeks and am missing the immediate excitement of the Olympics. If you can get Foxtel 'sport' you can see much more than the Oz perspective which you get on Channel 9 which drives me mad! Sadly you can't get i-player on the laptop out here as it's blocked. I have managed to catch up with a lot of the GB triumphs - makes me feel almost homesick grin DD2 and I tgake great delight in whooping and cheering when the Brits win - much to the chagrin of SIL and the Outlaws flag
don't know what's happened to the flag emoticon - it's a red X with flag next to it??

Gally Mon 06-Aug-12 10:37:26

Tech - as you can see above!!

Annobel Mon 06-Aug-12 11:24:39

I realise that NZ punches above its weight sports-wise. I enjoy teasing my NZ relatives when they go on Facebook and brag about it.

JO4 Mon 06-Aug-12 17:06:03

How petty minded can people be! criticising Gabrielle Douglas's hair!

JessM Mon 06-Aug-12 17:29:19

I too have reports that the Aussies are really fed up. But swimming has always been their forte and the Chinese and US have made such strides in this sport.
I guess the Kiwis are fed up about their rowing - they were hoping for 10 medals and got 5, but they did not account for our improved women.
Worst ever Olympic coverage was once in Italy. They only covered things like shooting, that the Italians had won a medal in. Most of coverage was fancy camera work in fancy studio.
