Wonderful, wonderful performance by our show jumpers! My heart was in my mouth throughout and I had tears in my eyes at the anthem! flagflagflag

The French are apparently 'perplexed' by GB's medal total. They are suspicious of the records broken, and are wondering whether we are using illegal wheels in the cycling races! grin

gracesmum Mon 06-Aug-12 17:36:33

And illegal legs on the horses? Illegal water in the sailing and of course the rowing! gringrin
I heard someone say when they heard the Aussies were complaining about the Dorney "roar" being too loud "At least we must be doing something right!"

I watched the tennis and nothing else. I thought Federer was uncharacteristically lack-lustre in the final; but maybe Murray was wearing him down.

My cynical DD said she thought money had changed hands!! - I do not share her cynicism.

Well I was half asleep on the sofa and missed Beth Tweddles bronze in the gymnastics when the show jumping came on....managed to watch it until David Charles horse came out at which point I was sat on the stairs crying with my hands over my eyes so I couldn't see. However, before that when that beautiful horse of Ben's came out looking like Black Beauty I kinda got the feeling we were going to win. Interesting what the French have been saying after listening to some of the interviews, especially about horses not being sold because of this event; beginning to realise that people in every sport have been planning this for many years..every last detail. That's why we're doing so well. It's not that we're doing better than people expect us to, it's just that they underestimate what we're like; we're also working as a team, we truly are Great Britain and maybe that's a lesson to learn and take forward that, individually we're pretty good but when we all pull together we're world beaters [apart from penalty shootouts blush]. Now I'm of for a cup of tea and a few more tears [Triple X home bred as well; keep imagining him as a little foal..am in total Black Beauty land here....]

crimson Mon 06-Aug-12 17:56:05

Mishap; did you see the interview with Andy Murray when he said that Federer likes to come out and serve very quickly and all the clapping and cheering was slowing the pace of the match down?

merlotgran Mon 06-Aug-12 17:58:30

So wonderful to see Nick Skelton get his gold (along with the rest of the marvellous team). When DCs were small they would be allowed to stay up late and watch The Horse of the Year Show. Nick Skelton winning the puissance became the stuff of family legend grin Happy Days grin

A little break from child care , went to park , blew bubbles big time , kicked footie , so taking a little me time . Where do these people get off , her hair is fine , she is a pretty young woman only 16 , leave her alone . Mind you there is a saying which I can"t quite bring to mind about we have the face we are born with , then the face we are ?? I think sometimes these people should think that it is NOt always a good idea to always be carping on , perhaps they are paid handsomely to do so but they musn"t get too critical

crimson Mon 06-Aug-12 18:00:34

Everyone watched show jumping in those days, didn't they. What happened to that?

Nonu Mon 06-Aug-12 18:03:45

Back to previous post should be careful they don"t turn into old harpies sunshine

crimson Mon 06-Aug-12 18:08:47

She's beautiful and her hair's just fine.

Anagram Mon 06-Aug-12 18:12:42

Probably already are, Nonu!
She's only 16, and to expect her to have her hair in a smooth bun when she obviously has the type of hair which is difficult to control is ridiculous! It's from the same type of people who criticise Becky Adlington for not being conventionally pretty - shallow.

merlotgran Mon 06-Aug-12 18:15:05

Yes crimson and good old fashioned horsey dramas like Follyfoot.

Anagram Mon 06-Aug-12 18:23:50

Did you have to mention that programme, Merlot? I'll never get the title tune out of my head now.....confused

MaggieP Mon 06-Aug-12 19:03:38

Perhaps the Aussies will be happier now that they have won a Gold today in the Laser sailing!
It's been brilliant watching Ben and Andy and Laura yesterday and the Show Jumping today, plus all the others. The National Anthem keeps being sung with gusto and louds cheers at the end. People are smiling all the time! Are there still some who are not even a little bit interested in this amazing Games?
grin flag The Union Jack emoticon has disappeared , quite the wrong time too, maybe it's been exhausted!!

JessM Mon 06-Aug-12 19:23:54

Someone help please. is there some athletics coverage WITH COMMENTARY
AHHHH he' has returned. The commentary keeps disappearing while the camera dwells on the same waiting athlete for 5 mins... phew
Not sure whether the problem is technical or what on these umpteen channels
Feels like the entire crew have wandered off for a pee and a sandwich.
Then we have suddenly too many of them. Like Gary the crisps last night. What exactly did he add to the athletics coverage?

johanna Mon 06-Aug-12 19:46:33

Maybe just as well, that the commentary keeps disappearing..
Just before the jump off in the show jumping one ( male ) commentator referred to the Dutch in their Tangerine colour??!!

Must write to Queen Trix and let her know she now descends from the House of Tangerine.

Unbelievable.

merlotgran Mon 06-Aug-12 19:55:51

Funniest moment for us last night was the clip of the 'pundits' high up in their pod watching Usain Bolt. One of them was yelling, 'Here he comes. Here comes Whatsisname?' Oh dear. How much are they being paid? hmm

Annobel Tue 07-Aug-12 13:24:20
