Onomatopoeic is a lovely word, and a lovely idea - all those words like squish and pitter-patter.

As a child in Scotland I got into trouble for say "Uh-huh" for yes, I notice they don't do that down here.
Yep, yeah, yeah man, absolootly, aye, even Och aye - you have a point grin

It's often replaced with "Absolutely!" as well.

Has the word yes gone for ever? You do still hear it from time-to-time , however, I'm listening to Radio 4 and yeah seems to be the word for yes. Interviewers on TV, newsreaders, Boris Johnson, David Cameron - everyone says YEAH. People who should know better.
