It's nearly over and I have decided to award Team GB (me) a gold medal for tidying up the spare room, which is hat I have mainly done this week while DH has been glued to the telly.

what, not hat. That'll teach me not to preview.

Driving twice to Heathrow taking my granddaughter to and from a job interview, its her first job interview and she was so nervous I thought it would give her a chance to calm down if I gave her a lift there and back instead of trying to find her way on public transport... all went well .

flowers for you both tanith (plus that elusive God medal!)

eGJ Fri 10-Aug-12 17:12:29

Annobel Fri 10-Aug-12 17:16:07

Quite like the sound of a 'god' medal. grin

I suspect we all deserve a gold medal at sometime or another, some of you deserve one a lot of the time for coping with all life throws at you.

But, today, I deserve an extra shiny gold medal for visiting my mum and not leaving when she was really nasty about me, my family, my brothers, their wives, their children and my father! I know she can't help it but every now and again it all gets too much! angry

Oh kittylester - I can only imagine how you must have felt after an onslaught like that, even if the old lady couldn't help it. Well done for keeping your cool. flowers

kittylester Fri 10-Aug-12 17:46:08

Thank you green. Sorry I brought the tone of the thread down. Feel better now. smile

Now I think of it, I think I can award myself a gold medal, too. My son, who has been through very, very bad personal times, told me today that he 'wasn't unhappy'. I'm almost scared to put this in writing as it might be tempting Fate, but now I feel that I can do it. I know he's struggling financially, but is working and paying his rent, with little left afterwards. The last 2 years have been hard, but to hear him say that he wasn't unhappy (and this was just dropped into a conversation), made ME happy! The gold medal that I've awarded to myself is for not going off my head with fear - and I'm sharing it with other gransnetters who have given warm support to each other and to me when times have been really tough. flowers

I agree that you deserve a medal for that, green, and it must have been so heartening to hear that he's no longer actually unhappy. flowers

greenmossgiel Fri 10-Aug-12 18:12:23

Thank you, Anagram. smile

I should like to nominate littlenellie for a gold medal. She has so many different issues to deal with and still retains a great sense of humour. flag sunshine

Annobel Fri 10-Aug-12 19:05:34

I second that shysal.

glassortwo Fri 10-Aug-12 19:05:38

I think mine would be in Tolerance. Trouble is, people don't bloody notice do they. But I tolerate them not noticing that I am being tolerant... even when they are being intolerant. grin

Ella46 Fri 10-Aug-12 19:24:03

I'm giving myself one for keeping my mouth firmly closed, when there is So much I want to say/scream, and for not doing any serious physical damage to a very close in law! angry

greenmossgiel Fri 10-Aug-12 19:30:59

Sometimes it may be necessary to say a little 'something' perhaps.....just as an aside, as you walk away, Jess and Ella? Although, that's often been my downfall! As the Other 'arf has said so many times, "Why do you always have to say something - can't you just leave it?" confused

glassortwo Fri 10-Aug-12 19:36:00

My problem too green Dh says I should learn when to button it, I do try but sometimes not very successfully. hmm

Ella46 Fri 10-Aug-12 19:37:52

green that's tempting but I wouldn't be able to stop once I started! grin

greenmossgiel Fri 10-Aug-12 19:39:08

grin!!

Gally Fri 10-Aug-12 22:10:38

green flowers Mr.G always said I should follow his example and keep shtum!!
I don't think I deserve a gold medal but will award myself a bronze one for services rendered over the last month to DD2 and her family; I am running out of puff and have a sore throat and sniffly nose and feel like a holiday wink

Annika Fri 10-Aug-12 22:17:41

I award myself a gold medal for being such a brave 'girl' today.
DH thought it would be a good idea for the two of us to take a walk across some fields which has very long grass, and we all know that hiding in the grass are grass snakes waiting to attack me !. shock
