Today I've been.....

Had the GDs to stay overnight and have just taken them back - they are such fun, but so exhausting! I am not one of nature's early risers.....

Today I set out to buy a pruning saw (the one I had is probably rusting somewhere in the undergrowth) at out local garden centre. I reached the relevant display just as an assistant was sticking half-price labels on everything. I then had a further 10% off because of the discount scheme I subscribe to. Not a bad afternoon's shopping. Now I have to pull my finger out and use the saw. Love pruning; hate weeding.

Now, tell me, is it really still August? The garden centre already has a display of you-know-what cards.

I love the pruning but hate clearing all the bits up afterwards!

gracesmum hope tomorrow is a truly wonderful day.

Our middle daughter and her 15 month old have stayed for the past week - our house looked like a tip, beginning at the front door, through every room. Last time we went to her house it was spotless. GRRRR!!

kitty, my house is rather small to accommodate GC and their parents, but I have to say that when they left last Saturday, the house was left tidier than usual, apart from the odd piece of Lego under the sofa.

Annobel, I've just found 3 bright pink balls, a toy phone and the remote control under the sofa as I was replacing it in it's rightful place.

Today I have been.......doing b****r all. I seem to have mislaid the "on" button!

Washing the wash-house, putting away tools that had accumulated in it but should be in the shed, and all the odd screws and nails and bits of sandpaper that get left on top of the fridge and freezer, sorting through DD's school clothes, changing beds, making space in there for a three-tiered tower of recycling boxes, writing letters about orthodontist appointments, answering emails to mothers of Cubs, watering house plants, putting away in my archery bag my new arrows that DH says I need, looking up what human females have in common with pilot whales and orcas, and if chest pain can be caused by rheumatoid arthritis, how to walk to Kelvingrove Museum from Partick Station, and a few other bits and bobs.

Reading and blethering on gransnet too.

I love that word, blethering! A friend of mine uses it a lot, never heard it before then!

Just spent several minutes catching up, needed a sit-down after scrubbing the kitchen floor, funny how tiring it is these days, but days of traipsing in veg from the allottment meant I couldn't get away with the usual mop-job!
Oh, yippee the sun is well over the yardarm..... byee!

Mishap
My Mum often used to do b****r all and say she was suffering from 'disinclinitis'.
I seem to have had it for the last fortnight since DS, DiL and 2 DGCs went back to the States after their 2-week visit!

Done very little today, and feel quite guilty, as it's not been a bad day weather-wise. Am still awaiting delivery of a microwave from Asda Direct, who deliver between 8am and 8pm....it's 7.55pm.......not waiting in tomorrow because it's my granddaughter's 21st birthday and the family are meeting up for lunch (and a blether)!

I`ve been reflecting on how old I must appear to others younger than me. Today I was in the Co-op, and had trouble lifting my basket containing potatoes and pop up onto the desk at the checkout, it was so heavy. The assistant gave me a hand, saying "Bless you" to me! Then just after that I went to the chippy for some tea, and one of the assistants said "Hello, me duck, are you alright?" All meant well, of course, and no offence taken, in fact it was rather nice, but as I`m still 16 in my head, I don`t realise how ancient IO must appear to younger folk.

Saw our buyers yesterday, and it looks like we'll exchange on Tuesday! Fingers still crossed.

number - I never scruple to trade on my white hair to get help - it is surprising how often people in a queue at the airport will make room for the old lady struggling with her bag. When I go out on boat trips, I always let the youngsters help me on board. It makes people feel good to help the elderly!
