Apart from choosing a new name, I've been slathering Germolene on insect bites - how lovely is that? My new name doesn't make one think of Germolene and insect bites! It's the time of year for these and I'm covered in large itchy bumps...grin

I've been tidying paperwork and filing. About 2 years worth. Pretty much all the important stuff dealt with and filed or piled for tax returns etc. 4 bags filled with school governor junk. Only 4 more days to go. So many initiatives, so much colour printing, so many secretaries of state and quangos no longer with us.
Enough already. I am going to have a nice bath. And later on we are going to see Brave. (DH loves the pics, so every so often I go along to see the least awful option in our multiplex. It was that or batman. He really likes animations bless him and this one, at least, has great "cast" - Connoly, Thompson etc. I will be able to tell my GKds about it...)

annodomini Mon 27-Aug-12 16:10:41

I still, four years later, occasionally come across bits of governor bumph! 24 years creates a fair tonnage of paper.

Let us know what you think of Brave. I've been hoping that the GC might want to see it next time I'm 'down south'.

Spent an hour and a half waiting for the breakdown truck and an hour in the KwikFit garage, but it's done - yesterday I drove from Sussex to Essex to look after some dogs while their owners are away. Got within 200 yards of the house, swerved a little to avoid a car on my right and scraped a harmless looking green grass triangle - scrunch! Concrete under the grass. Ruined my two near side tyres. Of course today is a bank holiday - but I've got breakdown insurance and they arranged the truck, and I phoned KwikFit and they were open, bless them! I am so furious with myself for doing such a dumb thing in the first place.

Took the dogs for a walk and they (3 labradors) are lying quietly nearby.

There are hens here too and I've just collected four eggs - still such a pleasure.

Brave is good, jess. Hope you enjoy it.

Greatnan Mon 27-Aug-12 16:51:55

Commiserations, Daisy - I hope the tyres don't cost too much.
I took my car down to the little garage in the valley and walked back up to my flat - only about 5 kms but all uphill. I am having a complete new exhaust/silencer system so I guess I won't be putting anything into my travel fund this month.
The walk only took an hour and as it is a really lovely, sunny day I went for a tougher walk after lunch - straight up to the ski slopes through the forest opposite. I walked back down the long way, via the road, so it was another two and a half hours.

gracesmum... one of those 'milestone' moments that are always happy/sad. Hugs and flowers

gracesmum the wedding sounds as if it was fabulous and great that DH managed the day so well.

It was on August Bank Holiday Saturday two years ago that DD1 got married and I do remember that feeling post wedding..lots of emotion that needs a way out and so crying is OK!

annodomini Mon 27-Aug-12 18:27:14

I had to have a complete new exhaust system on my Toyota Yaris last year in order to pass the MOT. I'd never had to spend much on the car before, but this spoiled its record.

Thank you ladies for all your good wishes and kind words for my daughter and her friends. Yes we are so proud of them. They had a lovely spa day today which they thoroughly deserved.
The walk was a lovely way to remember their friend and to do something positive. I forgot to say that their friend's 12 year old daughter did the walk with them, her daddy, grandparents and auntie were bursting with pride!! and her mummy would be so thrilled.

gracesmum lovely to hear about the wedding; I am so glad all was well and it sounds beautiful and joyous. Yes, it's a bit of a let down afterwards but the memories are priceless. x

Went out to lunch with friend to cellebrate her birthday. Normally we see each other every week but circumstances have kept us apart for months.

Spent the morning re-packing having seen the BBC forecast for Nice. Seems we may get two fine days out of the eight we shall be there! sad

Greatnan Wed 29-Aug-12 12:42:07

Walked the 5 kms back to the garage, but this time is was all downhill! My car repairs, including a complete exhaust system, came to €771 but I hope nothing else will need doing until the next MOT is needed in two years.
Very strange weather here - bright sunlight and blue skies, but I have just heard a very loud rumble of thunder, without any lightening.

soop Wed 29-Aug-12 12:56:17

gracesmum I think that the wedding photograph is just perfect. [Flowers] to you and the happy couple.

Mamie Wed 29-Aug-12 13:00:52

OGM the Meteo France forecast for Nice looks hot, but rather a lot of thunderstorms. If it is any comfort we get about one in six of MF's forecasted thunderstorms!

To the surgery, for a health check MOT they offered to older patients. Everything was fine, except my blood pressure was slightly up, I have to go and have it done again in a couple of weeks. One thing that cheered me up, I haven`t been weighed for about 14 years, didn`t like what the scales said, so never bothered again, just assumed I`d be about the same. The nurse weighed me today, and I`m exactly a STONE less than the last time! Still massively overweight, but by a stone less than I thought!

Ella46 Wed 29-Aug-12 16:26:40

numberplease Wed 29-Aug-12 17:37:48

Aw, are you sure?

Marelli Wed 29-Aug-12 17:47:02

That's good news, number - make sure you go back for that next appointment?
Today I went out with my 'lurking' Gransnet pal for lunch. We went to a lovely 'organic cafe' which is in the woods near a palace. Gally would know the one. All the salad veg etc grown there on the surrounding land....smile

Butternut Wed 29-Aug-12 19:44:39

i am a professional cake maker decorator i love the craft and started at night school..then i made it my buisness.....paid out a lot of money on all sorts of courses.......now i make cupcakes. i started to give them away then i did a fete and charged £1. each,,,,,sold the lot they were beautifully decorated roses and all....then i tried some at £1.25larger ones,,,,,,i was left with a few...so i took them round some industrial work places,,,sold them off at 50p...i wonder how do you get the happy medium with the prices, the cost of cupcakes on the net is wicked,,,,,,,,,i think ill wait till christmas to make any more...that way people will buy them for a gift. i dont put all the thick cream on the top i usually use cream cheese much nicer, dead easy to make too, i often buy a load of cheap ingrediants in the summer and give it all to my grandchildren , and put them in the garden to make cupcakes,,,they can make as much mess as they want outside and it doesnt matter, great ideah eh ?

angiebaby Wed 29-Aug-12 20:00:54
