Apart from choosing a new name, I've been slathering Germolene on insect bites - how lovely is that? My new name doesn't make one think of Germolene and insect bites! It's the time of year for these and I'm covered in large itchy bumps...grin

vodka and tonic went down a treat....sat in a long flowing dress having removed all underwear and let the breeze ..or lack of it waft where it liked, refreshing the parts where the vodka didn't reach..grin
Today have cooked a mammoth brunch..so only have to do salad tonight as the kitchen gets too hot.

jeni Sun 19-Aug-12 14:12:33

Ask soop about the undergarments?

soop Sun 19-Aug-12 14:35:01

gracesmum ...jeni is right to tell you that I've had dealings with a spandex under-garment. It did little to flatter me, because although it held me in well enough, I came over all faint after a time. Mind you, it was possibly the effort of getting into it and out of it in great haste that knocked the wind out of me. I've taken heart from those who assure me that life's too short for needless torture. I've folded said garment, wrapped it in tissue, and will ignore it for the rest of my life!
Littlenellie...so sensible of you grin

Can't be doing with the hold it in underwear...had a bad experience wearing an all in one body when wearing a shortish [just above the knee] dress,I hadn't fastened the poppers properly after going to the loo and rushed back onto the dance floor and just in the middle of an energetic heigh ho silver lining with my arms in the air my gusset gave way and was flapping between my knees below my dress....blush

Ella46 Sun 19-Aug-12 14:51:07

nellie that must have been one heck of a gusset!!

soop Sun 19-Aug-12 14:54:29

nellie love it! grin

gracesmum Sun 19-Aug-12 14:58:57

I am wearing silk trousers and jacket - so will need some underweargrin if only to keep the sweat in check! Suspect "magic knickers" would be torture in this heat and it's actually my face and neck that I am most conscious of [practise sucking in cheeks]emoticon.
Off to do more bunting having had a 45 min break. It is going slower than I expected, but will persevere.
Also practising saying I am chilled, I am chilled, I am chilled while DH acts as if someone (me?) has personally selected this unbearable heat and he can't sleep so nobody else gets to.

gracesmum Sun 19-Aug-12 15:00:08

Littlenellie Sun 19-Aug-12 15:16:47

gracesmum you will look beautiful. Your outfit will be brilliant. The bunting will be finished. The sun will shine. All will be well! smile As well as turning the head to one side on the photos remember to stand slightly sideways on with the 'front' leg slightly bent - it worked for me!

And, breathe. wine

30C here, so I went swimming in Lake Geneva, which is about 25 minutes away. The public beach at Thonon was crowded and there was no parking free for several hundred yards, so I drove a bit further and found a lovely, quiet little beach. The water was perfect - just the right temperature and clear and silky. I love swimming in fresh water.
I drove back by a long, circuitous route, exploring lots of little villages that I had not visited before. Now, I am reclining on the settee with the French windows wide open, but I am not taking my lounger on the balcony because it is too darned hot.

Annobel Sun 19-Aug-12 17:01:29

I've been with friends to Dunham Massey - NT property in Cheshire with great garden and huge restaurant. We managed to get round the gardens without getting soaked, though it was extremely humid and constantly threatening rain - this may come as a surprise to those of you currently sweltering in 30+ temperatures. Lunch was typical of NT - huge helpings but very tasty.

NfkDumpling Sun 19-Aug-12 21:55:34

Oh Greatnan there really should be a 'like' button as on Facebook.

Norfolk was cooler today, a very pleasant 24 C. We're looking after eldest's dog while they swelter in southern France so we spent much of the day with DD2 and family in a local park. The dogs swam in the river before we headed to this weird cafe in the park for refreshments. It's a bit like a transport cafe for dogs and their walkers. A very relaxing, lovely day.

jeni Sun 19-Aug-12 21:59:40

Night all!
Worthing tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow!
Then it's fridaygrin

Grannylin Sun 19-Aug-12 22:06:23

That's a long way to go from Bristolgrin

Anagram Sun 19-Aug-12 22:08:47

Goodnight jeni!

I don't agree with 'like' buttons, especially where the 'number of likes' is displayed against a member's name. I'm sure it gives rise to competitiveness rather than promoting honest opinion.

Greatnan Mon 20-Aug-12 06:38:05

I know it is much hotter in other parts of France, but it is always cooler up here.
It looks like being another hot one today so I am going to walk through a forest beside a river. The ski slopes where I often walk will be far too exposed to the sun.

Ariadne Mon 20-Aug-12 06:58:35

Looking forward to some former colleagues coming for lunch. Lots of wine chilling and will make a quiche to two soon before it gets hot again - though it will supposedly be a little cooler today. Raspberries and meringues for pudding, a marriage made in heaven.

So much gossip to catch up on!

Greatnan Mon 20-Aug-12 07:05:36

Ariadne - can you kindly send me some of your raspberries and meringue, and add plenty of cream!
