DH pointed out from the Court Circular in Daily Telegraph, that the Queen attended divine service at Crathie Church on Sunday. "The sermon was preached by the Rev DavidCameron" !!! Was he moonlighting? Doen' she see him enough at audiences at Buck House? Have you had other experiences of names popping up in unusual places?
The composer, Trevor Duncan, who wrote quite a few theme tunes for telly, including Dr. Finlay's Casebook, was a friend of my parents during the sixties when he lived in Bonchurch on the Isle of Wight. As far as we knew his real name was Leonard Trebilco and I remember my father being highly amused when he discovered that 'Trev' had, very sensibly, dropped ck from the end.
I remember when my son and DIL were talking about names when my first GD was expected. I said pretend you are a teacher in a playground and you call out the name. If everyone doesn't fall about laughing or with horror the you're ok.
I also had a GP called Dr Bone when I was a child.
One of the specialists at SRI was Dr De'ath.
I went to school with Ellen Nutt and her sister Hazel.
Our unisex hairdresser/barbers is call 'All Cut and Dried'
We used to have solicitors nearby called Welch & Robb and now have a firm called Black & Markie.
No one gave a thought to his name when Christopher Smith joined my DD's class until that unmentionable time of year came round and he was subjected to hundreds of bad jokes featuring Chris Smith's cards, presents, trees, stockings and so on. I believe he is a dad now so he will be Father Chris Smith!
There was a plaque on a wall in Darlington..not sure what the guy did ... but as kids we always laughed at it and joked, 'Look there's A Minto on the wall! Don't think they make Mintoes anymore!
I chose my surname after my divorce as I did not like either my married or my birth name. I thought it would be fairly unusual, but there are 127 people with the same first and surname as me on Facebook. I usually have to spell it out in France and even in the UK I have had at least four spellings of what I thought was a straightforward name.
A girl in my class at school was called Wendy Cockshaw - I don't think her parents had thought about the initials. Another girl was called Tannith Diggle. I wonder if either of them are GN members!
The most common name in my class was, surprisingly, not Mary, but Sheila. (I can still list all 32 classmates in alphabetical order - along with the states of America it is one of my memory tests for myself).
I thought my name would be unique until my brother-in-law introduced us to his new girlfriend and her 2 year old daughter who had my first name. They later married and he adopted the daughter making 2 of us with exactly the same name, including middle names, in one family.
