I love poppies, lily of the valley and violas. The scent of roses always makes me happy.

If you we're to have cut flowers in the house which would you choose?

My favourites are both wild ones so I prefer them outside: Grass of Parnassus and Water Avens.

Butternut Sun 14-Oct-12 07:52:52

It depends on the seasons - wild woodland daffodils, fritillaries, white chinese anenomes, chinese lanterns and the white hellebore (christmas rose). I also love a big blowsy tub of winter pansies. smile

Esoteric bags and definitely not flashy.
Not sure I could choose just one. In my kitchen i have some white gerberas that originally had black middles that DH bought me (rare!) and some petal shedding david austin roses from my garden.

DH loves lillies, because of their scent, but they do become rather overpowering after a few days.

I like all sorts but daffodils are always a timely reminder of Spring.

Like all flowers but especially ones that half look like wild flowers, especially in white and blue, maybe pale pink.

Favourite for the garden this year, pot marigolds. Don't seem to be available in garden centres so grew from seed.

I agree Soupy. The first daffs always bring some much-needed sunshine and cheerfulness in the spring.

Bluebells and wild primrose are my favourite flowers but I also love the scent of Freesias in the house...

Grannyknot Sun 14-Oct-12 09:28:16

Wildflowers. Nasturtiums. Roses.

vampirequeen Sun 14-Oct-12 09:30:02

Tulips are my favourites but I also love crocuses and snowdrops because they pop through so early and bring the promise of better weather.

Gally Sun 14-Oct-12 09:36:50

Sweet peas and roses - especially if climbing over my pergola but still lovely in a vase in the kitchen so I can smell them all day. flowers

As with my children, I haven't a favourite but I always think how appropriate and lovely flowers are for their season - primroses, daffodils, fritillaries, bluebells hardy geraniums and foxgloves as spring merges into summer, then roses and hollyhocks, monbretia and helianthus going into autumn.
I should have mentioned alchemilla mollis but it's too naughty!

Hunt Sun 14-Oct-12 09:48:32

pansies ,I think ,because of their dear little faces.

goldengirl Sun 14-Oct-12 10:29:16

Freesias, sweetpeas, lilies [the ones that smell] and poppies. I like daffs but don't like their smell.

annodomini Sun 14-Oct-12 10:41:16

Lily of the valley - but it refuses to flourish in my garden. Takes me back to my granny's garden.

janeainsworth Sun 14-Oct-12 10:50:09

Yes Anno I would have included lily of the valley but they have never grown for mesad

grannyactivist Sun 14-Oct-12 10:59:39

I love scented flowers; the smell of a blowsy, old-fashioned rose; freshly picked sweet peas; honeysuckle at six o'clock on a summer's evening. Gorgeous.

mrshat Sun 14-Oct-12 12:37:09

Freesias for indoors - lovely smile

soop Sun 14-Oct-12 12:42:38

Sweet peas; freesias; lily of the valley; marsh marigold; and the blousy peony.

Grannylin Sun 14-Oct-12 12:44:08

It would be much easier to say which is my least favourite flower!I think I love all flowers and plants.Had a wonderful trip to London yesterday, DDs treated me to a meal and an afternoon in Kew Gardens- magical this time of year smile

Bags Sun 14-Oct-12 13:18:30

envy, grannylin. Still, we're lucky here with the tree colours and the scenery so mustn't complain.

Butternut Sun 14-Oct-12 14:09:14

I'm a little envy too grannylin - love Kew Gardens.

Grannylin Sun 14-Oct-12 14:27:39

Where did all the green parrots come from? There are masses of them. The funniest sight was the squirrels running about with huge spiky sweet chestnuts in their mouths.I laughed so much yesterday, the DDs said I was like a child- think it was a compliment grin

Maniac Sun 14-Oct-12 14:30:23

Fuchsias -they come in so many colours and varieties.sadly not much perfume
but another bonus is they are slug-resistant!
Adore roses especially deep red ones
The golden glow of Rudbeckis and Inula in late summer/autumn

I like lots of flowers, but do have a fondness for carnations and tulips.
