What is your favourite flower?

I've said Lily of the valley but that's just for spring. For autumn, I love a nice shaggy bronze chrysanthemum.

Very difficult to decide. Probably the early brash yellow daffodils that bring the hint that spring may be coming.
Agapanthus, Lilies like African Queen & Lilium Regale. Nasturtiums, Nigella (love in a mist)

janeainsworth I may venture forth tommorow, too late now though. It might prove a diversion after murdering all the carols at choir. I will have to tank up though, their prices are dreadful.

When flower arranging I like to use carnations and enjoy using ivy and other foliage to create the background. I love the smell of night sented stock. I think my favourite flower is the snowdrop.

I don't choose to have cut flowers, (but never refuse a bouquet ) and my all time favourite flowers are fuchsias: all colour combinations, all sizes. I could happily have pot upon pot of them all over the place.
I also love crocuses simply because they herald the promise of Spring

I have narrowed down to my favourite flower currently in season. Those tiny white or pink wild-type cyclamen that are in bloom at the moment.

Peonies are my fave. Just love the shape and the colour.

ooo - tree paeonies are particularly amazing. Like full blown edwardian beauties.

Always find these 'what is your favourite' questions bizarre - seasons, food, animals, birds, films, whatever. So many excellent, amazing and wonderful ones - in different ways, for different reasons - why 'waste' time and energy on favourites, is the way I feel. I am not very fond of carnations and large crisanthemums (sp?) though, too neat and artificial looking.

Has to be the same as I had in my wedding bouquet many years ago.Freesia; Narcissi (cheerfulness); and Lily of the Valley, with purple heather holding it round the outside. Beautiful.

I do know what you mean granjura - it is a favourite current converstational gambit used by my DGD aged 7. *What's your favourite breed of dog, nana?" I find them hard to answer but maybe it depends on personality.

My Grandads sweet peas nothing ever smelled as good as they did, they dont seem to have half as much scent now.

Same here, jura, but there is something special about some. I love most wildflowers, but the delicate-looking but incredibly sturdy ones touch a special spot – like the bog pimpernels that grow on and near my garden walls: so tiny and fragile but so determined.

Perhaps the question should have been 'Which flower comes to mind when you think of all the flowers that you have loved over the seasons?'

JAB those were my maiden initials! I had cheerfulness in the church for my wedding too!
I had tint cream rosebuds in my bouquet but I can't remember what they were called.

Dahlias for cut flowers in the house, but I haven't the patience to grow them and you don't seem to get them to buy these days. I suppose they don't last but they are so cheerful! What really annoys me is the church flowers we get which are done on a rota and always seem to be chrysanthemums and carnations whatever the season. They look particularly silly in spring, I think. There is one couple who always put the flowers in one week in early spring and always daffodils and tulips or irises (maybe not quite in season so early, but more so than chrysanthemums) and everybody always says how lovely they are. When it's my turn I try to get something seasonal, preferably from the garden, and just hope not to be put on the rota in December!

There's something very special about lilac. It always reminds me of my Nana's garden.

...and violets. Magic!

Primroses. Do you remember the bunches of primroses and violets that used to come up from Cornwall and were then sold in the streets by ladies in hats , from wicker baskets? I loved them!

Bags, agreed, so many of them are special, and that is my point. In the garden and on my walks this year, so many lifted my spirits. Perhaps especially the fields of wild flowers, with so many astrantias. And the first Martagon lilies to flower in the new border here... and so many more.
