Does anyone feel we've been taken over.

I thought we'd repelled the intruders a while ago! grin

They were absorbed, like the Romans, Vikings, Normans and so on, and are now indistinguishable. I think you have come across a latecomer, who is treading in the footsteps of the pioneers, and is, perhaps, a bit hurt at their lack of welcome.

What like the Midwich Cuckoos? probably just the build up to Hallowe'en grin

What are you talking about? I have missed this. Help! I don't want to be taken over.

Eat garlic and keep a range of religious symbols within easy reach, This should repel most common ghouls.

ps I don't know what it is about either!

kitty I think newish member Daman is just catching up with the Oldie threads and adding his comments...

Daman Wed 17-Oct-12 19:00:13

The Oldie Borum wished you no harm. It is an autonomous Topic within Gransnet and will stay that way without oozing or bubbling into your thought patterns.

Ana Wed 17-Oct-12 19:16:00

I don't think it is doing any harm, Daman. Not to me, anyway...

Bing Bong (nasal sounding voice) " Daman , will you please report to Lil's Bar immediately, were there is a question for you" . Will all other passengers please report to the reception desk, where either myself or Mandy will be happy to assist yourselves, in any way whatsover, providing it is in accordance with company policy or an EU directive. Thank you.

A lot of Gransnet members have joined since the Oldie readers joined the forum and have no idea what we are talking about.

A recap for Newbies. The Oldie magazine used to have its own forum a few years ago. It fizzled out but the editors hooked up with GNHQ recently (maybe 6 or 8 months ago?) to have their own link to Gransnet from the Oldie website as a substitute.

The Oldie editors then made the link active and started several threads on various subjects, with posts from the same small number of posters (I think they were columnists) to set the ball rolling.

Unfortunately, it got going before GNHQ had told Gransnet members that it was going to happen, and there had already been one or two attempts at invasion by trolls, so the sudden appearance of several threads with unusual nams and full of strangers was received with mixed reactions. Gransnetters can be a little direct in their opinions in these circumstances.

phoenix you're on form today. smile

Anne58 Wed 17-Oct-12 20:20:05

Thanks kitty I think it's sort of manic reaction to yesterday and today. or perhaps I'm always like this, but usually manage to restrain myself.

SeanMc Wed 17-Oct-12 20:43:03

* daman* don't let phoenix lure you to Lil's, you don't know what you're letting yourself in for.

Anne58 Wed 17-Oct-12 21:10:45

Moi? je suis une pussycat!

merlotgran Wed 17-Oct-12 21:15:09

Thanks for the explanation, Elegran I wondered about the link with the Oldie.

nanaej Wed 17-Oct-12 22:15:15

Ahh! Thanks from me too elegran had no idea about this 'history'

feetlebaum Wed 17-Oct-12 22:17:07

@Elegran : The Oldie forum didn't so much as 'fizzle out' - The Oldie summarily closed it down, because they didn't want to be associated with the somewhat unattractive behaviour of at least one of the posters.

A substitute was created, as 'the newoldie' but the Oldie asked that their name be removed, and so it was re-titled to 'Mature Cheese'!

Sadly the creator of the new board became very ill, and has not been heard from since April 2011, which has done nothing for the health of the forum, and it is rather quiet there now.

Elegran Wed 17-Oct-12 22:19:15

Thank you feetlebaum You were closer than me to the story.

Daman Wed 17-Oct-12 23:07:35

Fame(the becoming a thread and the subject of threads) and Notoriety ( the speaker of evil and the doer of malignancy)

Worldly winds blowing this way and that - in one week.

gracesmum Wed 17-Oct-12 23:11:50

Enjoy it while it lasts - fame is a fickle mistress.

Elegran Wed 17-Oct-12 23:12:47

Better than nonentity, Daman.
Of course you could sink back into obscurity at any moment. Carpe diem.

Elegran Wed 17-Oct-12 23:13:15

Snap Gracesmum

Ana Wed 17-Oct-12 23:15:32

Daman, please don't give up. It will calm down! smile

Daman Wed 17-Oct-12 23:18:50

Carpe Diem! But its already twenty past eleven, and I am doing a bit of knackeredness - I feel the sinking.

Elegran Wed 17-Oct-12 23:19:22

I don't think Daman was considering leaving altogether, just staying within the comparative safety of Oldie Borum threads until he settles in. Little does he know that nowhere is safe.
