'Granny-Chic'?

Are we harking back to the security and 'cosiness' of simpler times?
Or is this just the latest marketing wheeze?
Personally, the thought of knitted tea-cosies and crocheted table mats makes me want to run screaming to IKEA!

Do any gransnetters know of the continuing existence of any. We could have a prize for the most ghastly one! grin

No, but a couple of years ago I won a cake in a raffle. It was exactly like one of those crinoline lady loo-roll covers, a small china doll embedded in a piped and ruffled crinoline dress. Looked better than it tasted - dry sponge and roll-out artificial icing with no flavour.

Elegran Presumably the crinoline lady cake was designed for a child's party – in which case texture and flavour are of no importance compared with its trampling into the carpet qualities.

I do agree with that line of popular but that doesn't mean chic. Not that I've ever been either, but even so.

I ought to come with a warning label: "Caution: elderly female geek". Every now and then I think about taking up some traditional granny activity but I get some chocolate and I soon feel normal again.

absent It was made specially for the raffle. I would have settled for a noce plain sponge.

MaryXYX I have just seen your reference to chocolate and its now too late to buy any chocolate that is suitably dark for my tastes or to go out in search of it. Big sigh.

I have a supply of dark chocolate in my fridge. It's quite safe - I live alone. Dark chocolate is good for the endorphins, so I have a scientific justification. For non scientific people it's that time of month and never mind how old I am!

What is all this nonsense about tea cosies? It is a purely practical item, so that the second cup is not lukewarm! Do we really have to worry whether it is chic? What is the world coming to?

Our tea stays warm, and doesn't stew, without a teacosy thank goodness - I wouldn't give even a chic one house room.

I have one, but it's not knitted - it came from the NT shop at Styal Mill, made from their own textiles. Not sure where it is, though...grin
