I have just set up my 79yr old Mum up with broadband she has never used a computer hmm I have left her wondering what hit her grin I bet the phone never stops!

Gally Mon 26-Nov-12 15:01:39

Waved off the gc's and DD1 this morning. I now have copious amounts of washing and cleaning to do, but oh how quiet it is without them. Alone again after over 3 weeks; thank goodness I have a day out with the 'girls' in Glasgow tomorrow to take my mind off it. Why is it you want peace when you're surrounded by people and want noise when you are alone - I always was a contrary person hmm

jO5 Mon 26-Nov-12 17:26:05

'uman nature Gally. smile

Anne58 Mon 26-Nov-12 17:27:12

She's right, y'know!

Butty Mon 26-Nov-12 17:28:56

Good for you glass. Your Mum will be a wizz surfer in no time! smile

I found, and downloaded, a blocker site to keep me off GN and get some work done.

It now says I have l hour and 5 minutes left before I can post something. confused

I think the young man who invented it will have to go back to his drawing board.

Ana Mon 26-Nov-12 17:34:37

Perhaps Gransnet was too strong for it? grin

Anne58 Mon 26-Nov-12 17:35:52

Ah, the power and force that is Gransnet!

jO5 Mon 26-Nov-12 17:43:01

Yes. Maybe. grin

If I'm not on here for some time, you'll know it went wrong in the direction.

jO5 Mon 26-Nov-12 17:43:31

in the other direction hmm

I need my dinner.

Anne58 Mon 26-Nov-12 21:07:08

I don't want to alarm anyone, but I think there may be another "new member". I know that we should all etc etc, but recent events have made me a bit cautious. Sorry if I'm wrong, but it's when people just jump in with a question rather than a sort of "hello" post.

Trip trap phoenix!!

Today I took one hour to travel one mile down the road on my way to do my stint in Court.

Anne58 Mon 26-Nov-12 21:52:55

kitty was that because you were staggering or was it due to impassable (why does that sound like Kennny Everett's Cupid Stunt) roads?

annodomini Mon 26-Nov-12 22:10:22

phoenix - all suspicions to be reported to HQ.wink, but I suspect you are getting the same vibes I am.

Anne58 Mon 26-Nov-12 22:13:48

Once I feel that it's a blatant attempt to advertise, I'm straight on the "report" button, but with other things, well, I tend to see how it pans out! wink

It has been a dreadful day here, heavy rain and so dark. DH and I had a TV day, catching up with all the programmes we haven't had time to watch.
Had I been going to Glasgow I would have travelled tonight, the roads are treacherous and I may not have made it.

I'm glad I went out this morning to buy a birthday card for GS, 5 tomorrow - hope the post gets it there on time! And I bought a bright, cheerful poinsettia. Now it is very foggy out there which is unusual in this corner of Cheshire. Now very relieved that it's the end of MOvember, and DS can get rid of the very sinister moustache he has grown. I know it's a good cause, but he did look like Fu Manchu. grin

annodomini Fri 30-Nov-12 15:56:01

Now dark and foggy - the end of the garden has vanished.

artygran Fri 30-Nov-12 16:11:15

My son has also grown a moustache for MOvember, Anno... he looks like a cross between Groucho Marx and Che Guevara! He was only persuaded to get rid of his last lot of facial hair in the summer, and here we are again. Hope it goes soon. Went to a local auction today. Bought a very nice silver scent flask to add to my collection of small silver. I actually went to buy a Spode teapot, but missed out on it (too many dealers there today). I have one, but it now has a faint crack in it and though it doesn't leak, I think it is only a matter of time.

Mamie Sat 01-Dec-12 06:28:26

Early start as the man arrived with his tractor to empty the septic tank at ten past seven. Pitch dark, freezing and he had to reverse in through the gates. Hope the neighbours don't need to go out yet.
Getting a bit pongy too.....

Butty Sat 01-Dec-12 07:56:28

grin - Hope all's done by now, Mamie and the Eparcyl sprinkled. (Do you use the 6 month pack - saves having to remember)

Gally Sat 01-Dec-12 09:03:46

Another hurdle to cross today - it would have been our 39th wedding anniversary - well I suppose it still is but there's only one of us to celebrate! Going out tonight with 3 friends to a Tapas place in Edinburgh.
I bought a poinsettia Anno about a week ago and its leaves are dropping already. What am I doing wrong? Should it be kept dry - does it like the warm/cold - I only bought it because every Christmas my Dad bought one and I thought I'd revive the tradition and now it looks as if it won't even make Christmas hmm

kittylester Sat 01-Dec-12 09:18:39

Happy anniversary Gally you have lots of happy memories I'm sure of all your time together but you will be sad too. sad Enjoy tonight and remember the happy times. wine

I think poinsettias like bright light but no direct sun and water from the bottom when they start to droop. The other thing is to think of them as very temporary!!

NannaB Sat 01-Dec-12 09:19:08

Phonenix I did laugh about you putting savlon on your toothbrush, it reminded me of getting ready for a Wedding and putting toothpaste on my hair instead of Vitapoint! smile

annodomini Sat 01-Dec-12 09:21:58

Thinking of you, Gally. Every milestone must be poignant. ((((hugs)))) Take care of yourself though I have no idea what has happened to your poinsettia. They are sub-tropical plants - I had a huge bush or small tree in my garden in Kenya - so wouldn't like it too cold. I gave my late aunt and uncle an artificial one and all the neighbours admired it, thinking it was real. So - if all else fails...
