Jane x to you and the parents of the soldier

I'm still not sure if I'll be seeing my grandchildren on Christmas day and we're not taking the eldest to a pantomime this year as 'his dad wants to take him', although not sure if that's going to happen [we had a wonderful time last year at the panto; oh yes we did]. And there's no mention of me going to any school productions either sad. But, it's a weird Christmas anyway because I only get Christmas Day and Boxing Day off and then it's work as usual [and Boxing Day will fall on my day off anyway so, in effect I'll only have one day off]. Strange Christmas all round, really. Although I have been invited to [strangely enough] a birthday party for a one year old on Christmas Day itself which I might go to. I think I'll be relieved when Christmas is over, if I'm honest.

Now on the A303, heading home from Hampshire. Beautiful day - crisp, cols and sunny.

A special bulletin for all Rory fans. All went exceptionally well yesterday. Rory in his element - he appears to love being upgraded with a passion. And then...guess what? We're part-time dog-sitting during the evenings, for our good pals in the village. Just prior to doing so, we prepared Rory's supper. This he would enjoy in his apartment. His bed nicely warmed with a fleece covered hot water bottle. Well, Rory really didn't wish to be relocated. He became a trifle bothered...it was at that point that he had a nasty accident. He did a wee and a poo in the sitting room. [His litter box being in the utility room]. Mr soop was not amused. I did all the mopping up and dettoxed every inch of the timber floor. Consequently, we were rather late leaving for our doggie duties. Mr soop kept mumbling something along the lines of...*!!!!**!!!! hmm shock
I've spent most of the morning re-cleaning the sitting room. Thankfully, no nasty smells. Mr soop has just this minute let Rory back indoors. He is lying across my feet, deliriously happy in a pussy cat way. I've a feather duster at hand. If I get the merest hint that he is about to relieve himself, for his sake and my own, I shall shoo him in the direction of the cat lavvy. Honest to goodness, I'm all of a dither. I really would enjoy having him live-in. But, he has to learn some manners, a very big ask of an adult feral cat. In the new year, Rory will pay a visit to the vet. He is to have the snip, after which, his razzle-dazzle days will come to an end. His wifelet and grown up kitten call regularly for a five o'clock feed. They politely acknowledge each other. Amusing to watch Rory sit well back and pretend to be the proud provider...which, in a way, he is.

I got up in the wee small hours to go and see GD's school nativity, travelling through the rush hour whilst still frosty. Worth every second of the 45 minute journey to see these wonderful children singing their hearts out. Pleased to report that GD lifted her head and spoke clearly and did not trip over the long words.
The only incident was a slight wardrobe malfunction, a first year walked into the hall with her apron on as planned but had forgotten to put her skirt on grin

janeainsworth Wed 12-Dec-12 16:20:18

harri poor little thinggrin

annodomini Wed 12-Dec-12 16:32:40

So pleased for you, being able to see your GD doing well in her nativity. That other poor child will still be hearing about that malfunction all her school life and someone will probably drag it up in a wedding speech one day. shock

Thank you anno for sparing a thought. Not too blue but having MIL rushed into hospital has brought back the gruesomeness of 2 years ago when she had pancreatitis. Messed up all our lives for months including hers of course.
Apparently she has perked up, managed to stand up etc and DH is hoping to get her out of there at some stage before bedtime. As long as someone remembers she is parked on a gynae ward out of sight of whatever doctor is supposed to be responsible for decision.

jeni Wed 12-Dec-12 17:32:00

I'm off in an hour and a half to go and listen to the Tallis scholars. I gather Maniac is going too! A micro GN outing!

annodomini Wed 12-Dec-12 17:46:25

jeni envy

jeni Wed 12-Dec-12 18:18:34

Wish you were coming Anno

JessM Wed 12-Dec-12 20:57:42

MIL still parked but apparently in single room on gyne ward but has made it on foot to the loo today. Still a resilient creature.
One of these days someone from the medical team will get there, and hopefully discharge her. Apparently she couldn't stop the bleeding because her warfarin was much too high. (two previous occasions she had a vein bleed she stopped it OK)
And turns out she is only getting warfarin checked about once a month these days. Hum. Sounds a bit like NHS cut?

NfkDumpling Wed 12-Dec-12 22:53:50

My mum was only having hers checked monthly too - until last week's test which the results of didn't come through 'til Monday because a computer failed. Her reading had shot up and today she started passing blood. No more warfarin. Perhaps weekly tests are a false economy.

NfkDumpling Wed 12-Dec-12 22:58:18

Sorry Jess, should have added that I really hope your mum gets sorted out ok and is home for Christmas.

Nelliemoser Wed 12-Dec-12 23:08:03

I made a lovely red pepper and Goats cheese flan to take to a meal with a group of friends tonight, lots of onions, peppers, olives and my best pastry. I took it out of the oven and put the hot flan tin in a big baking tray to put it into the car. As I was coming out of our porch the whole bloody flan slid sideways and fell upside down onto the path and the border under the front window. B*****. At least it caused the ladies some amusement.
I did just about see the funny side of it. grin

jeni Wed 12-Dec-12 23:20:06

Went to hear the Tallis scholars. Wonderful! maniac was there as well and I think she enjoyed it also. We met very briefly as it was very crowded.
The friend with whom I went, persuaded her DH to drive us in and out so it was a very pleasant evening
It was the first concert I've been to for about 15years as I don't normally venture out in the evenings.
I'm afraid I've become a bit of a hermit!
New year resolution!

MUST MAKE AN EFFORT TO GET OUT MORE!

confused

Ariadne Thu 13-Dec-12 05:19:38

Oh, I don't know, jeni - when you get out you really do it in style on your cruises. Quality, dear, not quantity! smile

Bags Thu 13-Dec-12 06:07:46

nelliem, AAAaaargh!! grin

jeni, glad you enjoyed that. Wish I could have been there too. Love Tallis. Quality indeed!

Bags Thu 13-Dec-12 06:10:29

Meant to say Tallis Scholars, but love Tallis anyhow. You get the drift.... Sometimes when I hear something that is supposed to be music but which I think is just noise, I think of Tallis and similar others and find myself making a judgment... music, is it? Nah.

JessM Thu 13-Dec-12 06:24:52

nfk that's what I am wondering. If they are cutting back on warfarin checks will they have more patients turning up in A and E with blood loss? hmm
Hopefully she will escape today and be back to what is normal for her in a few days.
Jeni that sounds fantastic. Getting out more - motivation is the thing isn't it. I feel a NY resolution brewing. Book tickets a long time ahead for on thing per month maybe. Once the tickets paid for one does tend to do the thing.
Is anyone else finding a prob on GN. It used to be that if you looked down the threads and clicked on the name of the last poster it would take you to the post and now it just seems to take you to the top of the thread. Is it me or it?

jeni Thu 13-Dec-12 08:28:54

It's IT!grin

annodomini Thu 13-Dec-12 08:54:37

No Jess, it's not just you. I mentioned it about a week ago and NOTHING has been done about it. Altogether now - SHOUT!
Last night we had NWR Christmas party - much hilarity and mulled wine. Something must have disagreed with me because I've been 'up' a few times overnight. And I've got the CAB today.

annodomini Thu 13-Dec-12 09:00:06

I've now created a thread about this on 'Tech Stuff' - please add your voice.

Bags Thu 13-Dec-12 09:01:26

I thought clicking on the name of a poster took you to their public profile, if they have one. What haven't I understood?

Bags Thu 13-Dec-12 09:01:49

Going to look there, anno.....
