Jane x to you and the parents of the soldier

harrigran Sat 10-Nov-12 22:53:12

Lovely cake, well done gracesmum
Good luck for tomorrow Bags as long as I am not the target
Hope the wedding went well ga
I used to use all sorts of expensive creams and cleansers but some of them used to give me spots, obviously too rich. Someone suggested I use sensitive baby wipes, they work really well and no irritation at a fraction of the cost.

Left DD1's at 9 yesterday morning, picked up the rest of the troops and drove to Scotland (3 adults, 4 x under 3's) and arrived at 7.30; needless to say everyone in a bit of a pickle today and out of sorts. I am going to slink out of the back door and up to the War Memorial in the village and leave them all to it!!

Grannylin Sun 11-Nov-12 10:55:06

Well done Gally you are a star.Love and hugs to everyone today, feeling a bit ' motional as my daughter used to say..Elgars's fault! flowers

Ella46 Sun 11-Nov-12 11:19:32

My dd is 40 today, she was born on Remembrance Sunday, so I feel quite nostalgic.
I'm driving over to see her this afternoon, with pressies, balloons (I know, but I'm daft!) and a large meat pie with 40 on the top!
My mum always made yummy meat pies and I've somehow got landed with the tradition!

annodomini Sun 11-Nov-12 11:49:57

The charger for my laptop has packed up so until the new one I have ordered arrives I might be incommunicado for a bit. sad

Ana Sun 11-Nov-12 11:57:10

Can't you plug it directly into the mains, anno?

Marelli Sun 11-Nov-12 12:03:48

Well done, Gally! You'll be back by now from the War Memorial, so try and let them all get on with it for the rest of the day - you'll be tired out!
I'm just back from our own village's War Memorial where a short service was carried out. The same old gentleman reciting "They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.....". Each year he falters at the same bit, and the group gathered help him through.
One young woman walked her dog through the group, and another followed her later on.....I cannot understand how anyone could be so bad mannered.

soop Sun 11-Nov-12 12:04:43

Ella Snap! My middle son is 49 today. Have lots of fun. flowers

Best wishes for a successful tournament. We're rooting for you. sunshine

Big ((hugs)) Gally you deserve a gold medal.

gracesmum A splendid cake. Very well done.

jeni I used to have a Sooty glove puppet. I think that I shall treat the wee man to one.

If anyone wants to know...I use Nivea.

Marelli Sun 11-Nov-12 12:08:34

Grannylin - I feel 'motional too. I cannot help it when I see all the old (and young) soldiers marching past the Cenotaph.

whenim64 Sun 11-Nov-12 12:23:22

The memorial service is so sad and the rituals so poignant, it fills me with a sense of loss and I always end up thinking 'what a waste of young lives that had hardly begun.'

flowers to anyone who has a loved one in the forces, especially if they have not returned home, or been wounded.

JessM Sun 11-Nov-12 12:36:44

ana I think anno means the thing that you use to connect laptop to mains...

jeni Sun 11-Nov-12 12:36:53

I've had tears running down my cheeks!

jeni Sun 11-Nov-12 12:43:46

I think it was the long list of soldiers killed this year. I could only think "GET US OUT!"

soop Sun 11-Nov-12 12:43:57

jeni a virtual comforting arm around your shoulder.

jeni Sun 11-Nov-12 12:53:27

Thanks soop but keep it for all the grieving relatives of the young men and women whose lives have been wasted.

jeni Sun 11-Nov-12 13:07:54

The waitrose delivery man has just made me giggle! He was describing an old lady he delivers to who is so disabled she has to use a climbing frame! Lol

whenim64 Sun 11-Nov-12 13:13:56

Now that I would pay money to see! Perhaps she was inspired by the Paralympics? grin

jeni Sun 11-Nov-12 15:44:43

Very moving ceremony this morning at the War Memorial in Victoria Park here in Leicester. Beautiful Portland stone arches by Lutyens symbolising the passage from this life of those who died in the Great War.

Then an organised bike ride (5 miles in lovely sunny winter weather) on the topic of Leicester Suffragettes, especially Alice Hawkins. Imprisoned 5 times in the struggle for Votes for Women, there's now a growing campaign (of which today is part) to erect a statue to Alice Hawkins in Leicester market place. Just had a fascinating short talk by Alice's greatgrandson, illustrated with memorabilia the family still posess eg postcards, a photograph of her being taken to jail, her suffragette sash, her prison notes, a pastel sketch by Emily Pankhurst of Alice working in the Equity Shoe factory co-operative in Leicester.

A fascinating day. Church next, supper then bed!

Yesterday went very well - thank you to all who thought about ga's son's marriage and my DD2's marriage - both of which were yesterday [not to each other!].

We had a splendid day - the bride was absolutely stunning (well, I would say that, wouldn't I?) the flower girls (my 2 DGDs) and the pageboy (DGS1) looked beautiful and behaved quite well. DH's speech was declared 'the best ever' and the groom couldn't finish his properly for crying while he talked about how much he loved his new wife. I even had compliments on my outfit smile.

It was a day full of love and goodwill, laughter and tears, good food and quite a bit to drink!!

I hope ga's day was as lovely as ours. sunshine

Cheers for the 'glass of wine', Nanadog - hic!

Yesterday afternoon, I found lots of bargains in Asda's End of Season clothing sell-off for the grandkids for next year; plus some good bargains towards the Christmas Stash smile

This morning, I've been back to the gym for a good workout and put my name down for a couple of Group Activities this week (Low Impact Aerobics and Circuit) - after reaching a weight-loss plateau, I need to kick-start my body into some extra activity this week grin.

A few more clothing bargains for next year and a few more whoopsied bargains for the 'Christmas Stash' - I have a couple of 'buffet parties' to cater for family members and they are now 'mostly sorted'.

I'm about to make a start on some 'decluttering' that desperately needs doing before my house move is upon me!

Marelli Sun 11-Nov-12 16:39:15

kitty - that sounds like a perfect day. Perfectly lovely! smileflowerswine

Grannylin Sun 11-Nov-12 16:54:44
