it's quite easy to go out and buy Xmas presents, but when it comes to wrapping them up, Gransnet beckons. hmm

I put today aside to get it done and I've done three.

I really want to get everything done early and be really organised.

Father Christmas has been re-named Amazon in this house grin

I wasn't boasting Nelliemoser. grin

Just whining really. I'm fed up with it already.

I'm gonna shove 'em all under the bed and make Baubles' Xmas cake recipe tomorrow.

Or just have another day like today. hmm

I remember when only children were given Christmas presents - why did we start giving them to adults? My family is far too large for me to go on buying gifts for the grown ups so once they leave school they just get cards. I have a good excuse for not buying the gifts for my great-grand-children myself - I live abroad, so I just transfer money to their mums' accounts and leave them to choose what they know the children will like. They send me photos of them and make sure they know that Greatnan has sent them.

For the two grandchildren still at school but in NZ, I have discovered that I can send them Amazon vouchers and there are always things they want on the site.

Eh you lot! Is this thread just an exercise in boasting that you have already bought some christmas presents? wink
Then you go and boast about having them wrapped as well shockenvy

Please stop being so darn organised.

Christmas is just stress as far as I am concerned. My Children can never decide what they want or like. They all tend to just buy what they want anyway. 6 week old GS won't even know its Christmas.

I hate the idea of buying presents for the sake of it.

Someone out there please give me some inspiration, does anyone know about theatre or short break vouchers or such like. Nothing really over £100 per couple we do try to have ceiling per person to prevent inflation.

Oh, I'm inclined to do that. I like pressies to be a bit hard to open. grin

Making it hard on myself aren't I? confused

Ana Wed 07-Nov-12 21:10:09

Jess - ditto. DH attacks present-wrapping like a military exercise and has to have his stall set out just so, and it takes him ages! The trouble is he uses so much sellotape that it's actually frustrating for the recipients...confused

crimson Wed 07-Nov-12 20:57:56

I often use tin foil and string for presents; I love to see a present wrapped in string. And brown paper. Not sure why confused.

JessM Wed 07-Nov-12 20:12:50

My wrapping skills display a wrapping age of about 6. DH can do nice ones but it takes him an hour per item.
Those ready made bags, or pay Amazon to wrap, that is my motto for the few presents I have to deal with.
AAAAAArrgghhh - it s really happening again isn't it.

I would love to be creative and talented at wrapping presents. I always know how I want them to look, but can't pull it off. Thank goodness for pretty gift bags!

baubles Wed 07-Nov-12 19:14:57

Wrapping is the best part! My parcels are works of art (she says modestly). Trouble is DH & DS disappear for 10 mins on the eve of the day after asking me if I've got any paper, tape & scissors. The result is NOT pretty. Perhaps I should wrap for them then I'd get a gorgeous parcel too grin I actually wouldn't care what's in the parcel smile

MrsJamJam Wed 07-Nov-12 19:13:28

Yes, those sticky tape dispensers that you put on your wrist are truly marvellous. My present wrapping is much neater.

We are off on hols for two weeks -come back to organise a huge family weekend party - then we need to recover - then it will be December. Think I have left it too late to do shopping. They will have to make do with money!!

shysal Wed 07-Nov-12 18:34:45

The job has become so much easier since I bought a Scotch pop up tape dispenser, which is worn on the wrist and gives ready cut lengths of sticky tape. Much better than the bits I used to cut and hang around the table edge. They are widely available, as are the refills.

Mishap Wed 07-Nov-12 18:02:38

Yes - I HATE wrapping presents too.

jO5 Wed 07-Nov-12 18:01:40

Don't worry. I'll still be wrapping the odd one or two on Xmas morning! hmm

I always start out well.

Anne58 Wed 07-Nov-12 17:53:21

Ana, neither have I! I did think about one earlier, so I suppose it's a start. blush

Anyway, it's Mr P's birthday on the 17th of this month, so I need to deal with that first.

Ana Wed 07-Nov-12 17:49:47

Don't worry, phoenix - I haven't bought one present yet! grin

Anne58 Wed 07-Nov-12 17:47:27

WHAT? wrapping already? Oh bugger.

jO5 Wed 07-Nov-12 17:44:57

Well, I walked into town to do mine yesterday. two and a half miles. And back again!

[showing off as usual]]

Hunt Wed 07-Nov-12 17:37:56

Absent ,I agree entirely. I've given up-money for all this year. Oh! The relief!

jO5 Wed 07-Nov-12 17:36:56

Most of this is bits and pieces for the grandkids from Amazon (free p and p). I have only done one real life shopping trip tbh. smile

absentgrana Wed 07-Nov-12 17:33:59

…and no it's not "quite easy to go out and buy Christmas presents". It's difficult and exhausting.

absentgrana Wed 07-Nov-12 17:32:54

jO5 Sellotape had been invented in their childhood for anyone under 75.

jO5 Wed 07-Nov-12 17:30:53

Will look out for those alternatives. Ta.

jO5 Wed 07-Nov-12 17:30:21

What did they use when we were kids? Had sellotape been invented then? Was it just silvery string? Perhaps I'll go back to that!

Ana Wed 07-Nov-12 17:12:03

Yes, and I find Magic tape easier to manage than clear sellotape (no good on metallic wrapping paper though, it looks too obvious).
