who might be thinking of joining.

You will only be allowed to stay if: you can spell, can type, have a good grasp of English grammar, and preferably have a degree (OU is allowed).

And whatever you do don't show any sign of a slightly smutty sense of humour. That will make the poor gentle-women on here tear their hair, and Gransnet will delete you in case you scare off any potential advertisers. (not there seems to be many at the moment)

JINGLE STOP MAKING MISCHIEF!grin

Dear lurkers, don't mind jO5 – sometimes she gets a bee in her bonnet and likes to talk a lot bollocks. She is harmless and can be hugely entertaining.

jO5 Sat 24-Nov-12 13:37:03

It is not bollocks. It's fact! hmm

Gransnet for the middle classes. And only the middle classes.

Ana Sat 24-Nov-12 13:41:03

Oh dear! I haven't got a degree...not even an OU one...confused

Ana Sat 24-Nov-12 13:41:37

Shouldn't have posted that, should I? hmm
I'll probably be banned now...

jeni Sat 24-Nov-12 13:42:07

What Is wrong with you today? Did you get out of bed the wrong side?

Ceesnan Sat 24-Nov-12 13:42:41

She also has the knack of exposing bullsh**ers, sometimes with hilarious results.

HildaW Sat 24-Nov-12 13:44:30

Jane Austen could do witty irony, not sure JO5 can.

absentgrana Sat 24-Nov-12 13:47:12

How did this episode with a coarse and unspeakably boring poster who was probably a bored adolescent or a deranged adult turn into a class war?

Ana Sat 24-Nov-12 13:48:42

Are you talking to me jeni? hmm

Hilda, JO5 certainly can. I'm not sure about Jane Austin.

jO5 Sat 24-Nov-12 13:51:24

Ana grin

Oh God. I've got a chocolate cake to make! Get me off of here!!!!

jeni Sat 24-Nov-12 13:51:27

No! Jingle! She's obviously 'got one on her ' as me old gran would have said!

Ana Sat 24-Nov-12 13:52:48

I knew that really, jeni! wink

Elegran Sat 24-Nov-12 13:56:47

Is this a private fight or can anyone join in?

jeni Sat 24-Nov-12 14:02:18

Please feel wellcome (inviting)smile

petallus Sat 24-Nov-12 14:05:38

Well at least we know 'coarse and unspeakably boring' posters aren't welcome! grin

annodomini Sat 24-Nov-12 14:12:53

I don't believe for a moment that certain posters, whose names cannot be mentioned, were as illiterate as they appeared to be. They were spoofing and were probably students who had lit upon G'net and decided to have a bit of fun with the grannies. Can we get over it now please?

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Sat 24-Nov-12 14:13:49

Just looked in from mixing my Christmas pudding to find that it's evidently not only Stir-up Sunday but Stir-up Saturday this weekend.

It's OK, we're big enough to take it.

<goes and hides>

No, but really, everyone is welcome.

<small voice from out of cupboard under stairs>

HildaW Sat 24-Nov-12 14:15:05

Well put Annodomini, better than I. What I was trying to say was that, as with horrid little playground bullies, ignoring them is usually the best policy.

petallus Sat 24-Nov-12 14:16:34

Agree the illiteracy was probably faked. Nevertheless, we are giving out a message to our lurkers if we comment on incorrect spelling rather than the content of the post.

jeni Sat 24-Nov-12 14:18:11

COME OUT GERALDINE, Jing is just stirring as usual!

absentgrana Sat 24-Nov-12 14:19:08

petallus Do you welcome coarse and unspeakably boring posters then? I still think jenrick is a combination of two people's names, probably slightly stupid adolescents who thought it would be fun to take the piss out of a load of old dears.

HildaW Sat 24-Nov-12 14:20:35

I don't understand the whole 'stirring' concept - apart from puddings of course!

absentgrana Sat 24-Nov-12 14:21:34

Surely the comments about the spelling were part of the process of detecting a fake in this specific instancer – in the same way as in a real-life conversation a false French accent would be a give-away.
